Regardless of party and politics, I've always been intrigued with the whole process of Inauguration Day in Washington DC.. and the "move out" and "in" of the various First families..... I think it started way back when I was in school and the miniseries "Backstairs at the White House" detailing
those who'd worked with the first families from William Howard Taft through

I understand that there is to be 93 "movers" who will move out the Bush family and move in the Obamas in a period of 6 hours. I'm sure its quite
the day in "Our Nations" house.....

Hope all goes very well with the activities today!

Looking forward to Obama's speech todayicon_exclaim.gif I hope he speaks about the importance of assimilation in this country. With the advent of our next president, I hope ALL poeple are willing to make changes. Our country is a melting pot the trouble is people no longer want to feel the burn as my parents did in this country. I am a first generation born in this country. When my parents came here the had nothing, and times were much tougher than they are now. My father had two jobs and put himself through night school. He had zero hand outs-no free books, tuition and housing. My Mom raised two boys and had a grandmother that lived with us in three rooms. Yes they had to rent for many years-no shame in that! Look at what has gone wrong with this country giving home loans to families not ready or in a position to keep them. People expect the "american dream without working hard for it. My parents went on to have three more sons. They lived and worked in times where they were told not to live and work where they wanted based on their look or last name. It is possible to keep one's heritage and prosper in this country through assimilation. My parents made huge sacrifices. It's time for a return to that work ethic. Handouts do not always work. Oprah chose not to build her school for girls in this country for that reason. There was a time when we had to make these allowances in this country it was needed and just!! I have had to hire based on filling quota. It means giving carreer positions to underqualified candidates and turning more qulified ones away based on race. I have done it over 10 yrs now, and it has been going on for over 20 yrs. Imagine american sports today, baseball, basketball, football, forcing coaches to place 3 out of 10 players with white males not just beching other men but actually telling them we can't hire you, eventhough they are more skilled and talented. Sounds crazy, but true in corporate america. Men and woman are hired with lower GPA's inferior resume's and inability to write and speak grammatically correct. It is time to expect more from everyone in this country and raise the bar! It's 2009. I have a friend who works as a tax preparer and he is amazed how hard some americans work at not having to work. Looking forward to a stronger economy! Trying to stay optomistic! Ok off my soapbox and back to work. Wrote this in between e-mails and phone calls......

At least he said "these programs must stop." Our founding forefathers and the dead men and woman who seved this country and made such extreme sacrfifces would be ashamed of this country as it is today. Our children and young men and woman today hold more importance in material things like the latest cell phone, jeans and shoes, instead of what they can do to advance their family unit. I hope we can all work together to fix, repair and get this country back on track and make them proud. I would have hoped he touched on the problems drugs have made on this country. I thought his speech was ok-not fantastic, but ok.

    Things I learned this inauguration

Rick Warren is an idiot, that is why he is popular (thanks Hobronto)
Can we retire John Williams yet?
Obama gave a shout out to atheists!
poetry can still alienate, uninspire, and take up far too much time.
Rev Joseph Lowery wiped the floor with that Warren hack. Even the non-beleivers said "Amen!".
