So the ultimate goal is more size but I'm trying to decide whether I should try and lose this little bit of belly fat first. I know with bulking I'll put on fat it's really a given but I don't want to put on to much fat. Also tips for putting on mass once i decide whether to lose weight first or not would be awesome. Thanks guys

You can gain mass and lose fat at the same time. Just eat lean, carbs only early in the day, and lots of protein, lots. You need some healthy fats, too. Try a protein powder shake a couple of times a day.

Really? I was told its hard to lose weight or impossible while bulking. Any recommendations on protein powders? I'm not looking to spend to much but am pretty serious bout putting size on my arms and chest. I've used real cheap powders before even religiously it just didn't give me the results. Is it worth spending more?

You either gain weight or lose it.
It's all about calories. If you consume more calories than you need then you gain weight. Inversely, if you consume less calories than needed then you lose weight.
If you eat too much proteins, it can be stored as fat so there is a limit (the number of grams is about 1 to 1.5 times your weight in lbs). I use some basic whey proteins and it does the job.

To answer your question, I would just bulk. Based on your pics, you should bulk. You'll cut later.

True, but you can build lean body mass while maintaining or losing overall mass. It's called recomposition.

I always recommend people to slim down before they start bulking up. That way, if they notice that sport isn't for them or they can't keep going to the gym consequently enough, they won't be used to higher calorie consumption (the opposite indeed) and won't get fat.

Then again, the more muscle you have the easier it is to slim down. So it really doesn't matter what you do. Just lift.

I was actually just reading this article: http://www.muscleandfitness.com/nutrition/lose-fat/death-bulk-and-cut-diet?page=2

I haven't tried it, but I know guys who have done this type of nutrition routine and they gained as much or more than other guys doing the bulk and cut cycle. I'm going to give this a shot. We'll see how it works.
