From an evolutionaary point of view, the earthworm is simplicity itself. A useful member of society, it aerates the soila nd distributes nitrates and such. Ugly though. Surely, while developing sucha resilient form, it could have taken the time to evolve a bit more prettily. Some polka dots perhaps. Or bioluminescence. It's not that I'm complaining, per se, I just think it wouldn't require much more effort on the earthworm's part. This allegory has been brought to you by the good people at Stella's House of Figurines

An earthworm that's the color of earth is more likely to survive predators than an earthworm that's made itself more suitable for a gay pride parade.

Another allegory, perhaps, applicable to gays who would make themselves too tempting for their own predators to devour?

Perhaps we should change the rainbow flag to an earthworm flag?

But surely you realize that the beauty of the earthworm lies in its apparent drabness - the absence of anything remotely attractive, which saves it from the unwanted attentions of suitors and fishermen, hereby keeping it happy and gay as it burrows through your carrots.

Earthworms are evil, evil creatures. The movie "Squirm" exposes them for the vile creatures that they are.
