People watch. that's going to be the biggest thing to do. I came out during Mardi Gras in 2008. it's an awesome event if you like big crowds, lots of alcohol, and lowered inhibitions.

If you like sex with "straight" guys, you can have a field day!

I live in New Orleans and I can tell you that thousands of people show up. Traffic sucks. Everywhere is crowded. If you decide to go to Bourbon St., make sure you keep track of whomever you went with. Keep your valuables close, stay away from shady places at night (and day). The parades are great, there are both family friendly ones and some for debauchery. It's like Halloween, everybody dresses up. You'll have fun just people watching.

You can easily find events just by using Google. Have fun and make sure you at least try a king cake. icon_cool.gif

No one said anything about "slutty." Revert to a 5 year old and pretend you can be ANYTHING you want to be. There is absolutely nothing you can't be at Mardi Gras. Nothing.

Tip: Hand made costumes are preferred. Locals know the tourists by their Partycity.com costumes. Yes, your costume should require work.

They don't have to look professionally made. In fact, the ones that get the most attention are the ones that are obviously hand made. Don't complicate it too much. Remember, making your costume should be as much fun as wearing it!

Doesn't have to be elaborate. Just think of something you'd like to be for a night. Fireman? Sailor? Tinkerbell? Pope? Sexy is fun though. Just think of what first then give it a sexy twist. Truly, you are the odd-man-out if you're not in costume. But do find some way to guard your wallet. You'll be pushing through crowds and I've been pick-pocketed twice. Especially on Bourbon Street which is where the gay clubs are.

This costume is from three years ago. I'm the one on the left. I made the eyes with cheap clocks I found at Walmart. The pupils are just a couple of old CD's I painted black. The mouth is an old screen I painted red so I could see out. My boyfriend did the same with his to the right.

This is my costume from last year. I'm the octopus. Again....completely made by hand and no sewing was involved. I found those little Dixie cups in two different shades of pink. I cut off the bottoms and used them for suckers. Again I used screen for the mouth painted black this time. I glued shiny plastic gems along the arms. And you can't see it here but below the mouth is a discreet hole for inserting my drinking straw.

I think the whole thing should be cancelled. It makes straight people look like stupid sluts and makes straight people look like all they care about is sex.

    ROFL!

I realize it's sarcasm but he's actually tried to make this correlation before about gay pride (and it wasn't sarcasm then.) Many people try to get their point across by dismissing it as sarcasm.

Gay pride, str8 pride, fuck it. MIL would be the last people on this planet to genuinely advocate cancelling MG.

That's not what I meant. I meant he likes to compare Mardi Gras with Gay Pride which doesn't wash. Anyway....back on topic.
