Our president was right not to go to France

All the people who criticize are not as smart and dont think things thru like our president

Our president does more with the drones than all those candy ass leaders combined

The marchers were saying bad things about islam /our president is better than that and knows islam is peaceful

What does walking arm in arm prove anyway?

America as defender of the free world can't be bothered with every march

Our presidents team is busy getting things ready to battle with the congress / he's got to do things without them cause they won't do anything to help the common man

President Obama rocks! He knows his main priority should be to help all those at the bottom. They're human beings and everybody should be able to live on an even playing field. Our president works to achieve that.

Former president Jimmy Carter told a group of reporters that they should give Barack Obama a bit of a break for not attending the recent solidarity march in Paris, which dozens of other world leaders attended.

“I don’t think there’s any need for criticism,” he said, according to the Wall Street Journal.

“The president sometimes can’t go where he’d prefer to go,” Carter continued. “He’s just come back from vacation so I think he’s probably got a lot on his desk.”

OP - thanks for the laughs, especially from Jimmy Carter. I added a couple of more excuses that Jimmy may have forgotten:

BHO was probably tired from all the jet lag from Hawaii. Going to Europe would have been too much.

He might not have a big enough bed on that plane and might also be tired from all the golf.

All the sun from Hawaii might have gotten him very tired.

Jon Steward said it was a shame BHO did not attend as being with all those leaders would have given him an opportunity to bow and apologize.

Dude - what is wrong with you? You're knocking former President Carter? He was our 2nd best president after President Obama, everybody knows that / at least those who don't watch Faux News. And dude, what do you mean saying thanks for the laughs, and then using the BHO? We all know his middle name is Hussein. What of it, man? I get it / you're a birther! All those questions of his birth place have been solved. His grandmother was mistaken when she said he was not born in Hawaii. Get over it, man! You are a racist! Its people like you who get in our president's way, trying to keep him from realizing his full potential. Give him a chance, man!

    Frankly?

Obama got it wrong, again. I don't consider myself a true Democrat, nor a true Republican. I could "go both ways", if I feel like it.

You can say what you like, but the Obama administration's foreign policy has been disastrous from the start, and this is no exception. Internal policy I won't discuss, but the foreign policy has been mistake after mistake after mistake.

    This is from September 18,2001:

QUOTE AUTHOR GOES HEREFrench President Jacques Chirac [...] flew into New York from Washington, where he had become the first foreign head of state to meet President Bush since the attacks on the United States last week.

In New York, he flew over the area now known as Ground Zero, where rescue workers are clearing up the wreckage and recovering bodies from what remains of the World Trade Center.

And this is a list of representatives from the various countries who attended:

    French President Francois Hollande
    German Chancellor Angela Merkel
    British Prime Minister David Cameron
    Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi
    Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy
    Romanian President Klaus Iohannis
    European Commission president Jean-Claude Juncker
    European Parliament president Martin Schulz
    European Union president Donald Tusk
    NATO secretary general Jens Stoltenberg
    Polish Prime Minister Ewa Kopacz
    Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt
    Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel
    Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte
    Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras
    Irish Prime Minister Enda Kenny
Portuguese Prime Minister Pedro Passos Coelho
    Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka
    Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico
    Latvian Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma
    Bulgarian Prime Minister Boiko Borissov
    Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban
    Croatian Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic
    Luxembourg Prime Minister Xavier Bettel
    Maltese Prime Minister Joseph Muscat
    Slovenian Prime Minister Miro Cerar
    Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven
    Finnish Prime Minister Alexander Stubb
    Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko
    Swiss President Simonetta Sommaruga
    Kosovo President Atifete Jahjaga
    Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama
    Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu
    Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg
    Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibachvili
    Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov
    Austrian Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz
Canadian public safety minister Steven Blaney
    Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu
    Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman
Jordanian King Abdullah II and Queen Rania
    Palestinian Authority President Mahmud Abbas
UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed al-Nahayan
Qatari Sheikh Mohamed Ben Hamad Ben Khalifa Al Thani
Bahrain Foreign Minister Sheikh Khaled ben Ahmed Al Khalifa
Baharain Prince Abdullah Ben Hamad al-Khalifa
    Malian President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita
    Gabonese President Ali Bongo
    Niger President Mahamadou Issoufou
    Benin President Thomas Boni Yayi
    Tunisian Prime Minister Mehdi Jomaa
    Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra

You think President Obama, the President of the USA, could not bother himself to fly to France and show solidarity with the French people after what is being called the French 9/11????

Stupid, dick move. Foreign policy FAIL.

I'm not sure it was necessary for President Obama to attend, but I think at least the VPOTUS or John Kerry should have gone.

I dont have any problems criticizing the President. But I think not going was not particularly a problem.

The impromptu march was a empty meaninglessness thing.

All I can say is that if Europe starts waking up to the problem then welcome. If not the reality is that Europe is a terrorist factory.

That's not true. I don't believe religions are peaceful. I think they're inherently sinister and evil. I think Christianity, Islam and Mormonism are the antithesis of democracy, and I reject them soundly. I'm blasphemous, I'm a heathen, I'm an infidel, I'm a homosexual. I have my own faith. My faith doesn't demand anything from anyone. There's no sin, there's no judgment. There's no ritual or tradition. It's not part of a cult. I'm an independent, unrepentant dragon slayer.

I think the real reason Obama didn't go is because he would have been a target and put everyone in danger with his presence. Those world leaders were terrified. You could see the fear on their faces. No doubt they didn't want Obama there, because they were sitting ducks.

Thankfully, nothing happened, and the fallout of Obama not being there is all PR bs.

Some of us were adults during the Carter administration and remember what a hapless putz he was. The economy was tanking, foreign policy was a debacle, and the administration careened from one crisis to another.

Your mother was still wiping your butt for you when Carter took office, and you were beginning grade school when his one-term presidency ended.

Reagan won with 91% of the electoral vote in 1981, Carter carrying only six states. I was a registered Democrat at the time. I remember watching the debate between Carter and Reagan, and thinking that Carter appeared as weak and unpresidential.

In 2012, John Kroll of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reflected on the Cleveland debate -- the only debate between Carter and Reagan.

It would have been appropriate. He was leading edge, doing the "Je Suis Charlie" routine at the Paris Peace talks in 1970.

How wise is it to travel to France 2 days after a bombing? The president of France showed up to Ground Zero a week after the attack.

People act like their lives are suffering during this administration. Let's be honest, most of us on here are gainfully employed, take frequent vacations and have the latest phone/tablet.

Hotjoe is right on! President Obama did the only thing he could do / the most courageous and honorable thing / by not putting others in danger by showing up. He saved lives probably by not going. That was really heroic and sensible. The thing was not worth going all that way for anyway.
