ART myth of 96% reduction of HIV

Apparently the 96% is really 100%

"However, the single transmission in the immediate treatment arm of the study occurred shortly after the positive partner had been started on therapy, at a time when the viral load could not yet have been suppressed. Therefore, while the bottom line of the study was that ART reduced the risk of transmission by 96%, having an undetectable viral load appears to have been 100% effective. The authors of the study (I was one of them) couldn’t state this explicitly, because the goal of the study was to look at the effect of ART, not the effect of complete virologic suppression. But it is clearly not true to say that the risk of transmission with an undetectable viral load is 4%

I would add that these results are entirely consistent with the large European PARTNER cohort, where so far they have seen no transmissions among gay and straight discordant couples who do not use condoms.

You can’t prove a negative—we can never say it will never happen—but the results of HPTN 052 and the PARTNER study suggest that having an undetectable viral load is a highly effective way to prevent transmission!"

As often as I've been accused of "manipulating" the facts, this is as close as I've come.

Nobody can say 100% It isn't 96% it may be 99,99% or "Probably zero"

MuchMoreThanMuscle saidI think what a lot of people don't understand ( especially many RJ users here) is that people spreading HIV are more often those who don't know they have the virus. They are therefore not on treatment and have high viral loads and are highly infectious.

Unfortunately for you again you are wrong. I have 3 long term friends of whom are HIV Poz and two of them are not on ART at all. They are being monitored regularly and have a very healthy levels across the board. One of the three has contracted the virus in the last 12 months and he is seeing a doctor who is HIV POZ (For 20years) who also has resisted medication. Of the other two, one has only begun ART in the past 6 months and the other still hasn't.

Both have been POZ for 12 years now and both are still very healthy and quite happily living with HIV, monitoring the Viral Load and T-Cell counts without any issue. They are quite content to engage sexually with condoms and have shared their stories of disgust at the prejudice shown by the HIV Poz community of which they described as all engaging Sero-sorting BB sex which with POZ-POZ is unproblematic, however the attitudes toward condoms which are necessary in POZ-NEG relationships, described as appalling as very few had said they would allow condom use in any circumstances. Perhaps the BB Poz community needs to examine how some of the stigma is created by POZ men who expect HIV Negative men to change but refuse to make important compromises themselves

Nothing you said makes MMTM wrong in the least. You have friends who are POZ....not the same as POZ guys who "think" they are Negative.

If they are POZ and NOT undetectable then they MUST use condoms. There is NO reason not to be on ART, from a personal level it's better to start early to prevent any damage. Every study has shown that's you're better off EARLY. I'd question a Doctor who waits, it's not advised. Most say as soon as detected. There's also the risk of transmission....which is obviously very high right now.

and "POZ-POZ is unproblematic" is absolutely right.
