I've lived long enough to know that this too shall pass and all the other food fads have done in the past. Good for you one day, bad for you the next. Eggs are good, eggs are bad, now eggs are good again. Red meat bad, red meat good. I'm beginning to think nutritionists and food scientist don't know what the fuck they are talking about and are just pulling data out of their asses.

I eat and drink what I want just in moderation and don't give much thought to these super food claims.

^^^ And yet, climatologist are given full acceptance! ....even back when we were headed to an ice age due to CFCs.

    So, it makes you wonder.

If CFCs were causing global cooling (A), and we banned them, and now it's said we're headed towards global warming (B) should we un-band them and everyone begin spraying Freon into the air(C)?

If (A) was correct enough to ban them....and (B) is correct...then it follows that (C) just might work.

No less silly an idea than putting a huge 'umbrella' in the stratosphere to "shade" parts of the planet!

It's because when we read articles we're looking at the conclusions that the scientists have come to, which can be plucked out of their arses because they feel like they need to come to one at the end of their paper.

The data for nutrition papers like this are no way near as good as what we have for climate, we have bigger sample sizes, more refined techniques for measurements, better understood variables within the system etc and plotting up the data on the graphs lets you come to the same conclusion as everyone else.

I don't know if CFCs cool the planet, but it's irrelevant. They were banned because of the damage to the ozone layer increasing the risk of skin cancer. Getting everyone to use them to fix global warming (a separate issue) would be jumping out of the pan and in to the fire.

And sadly climatologists aren't given full acceptance even though, unlike these types of articles, they come to the same conclusion time and again.

Coconut oil does have antimicrobial properties. It seems doubtful that that would provide an advantage when the oil is taken internally, but it can help with fungal skin growths.

The title of this thread is at odds with the article in the OP. The Berkeley article had the decency to have a question mark at the end of their headline (although I still hate that shit: "Is Obama a Muslim dictator?").

Short answer: no, it's not a miracle food. It has food-like properties, in that you can eat it for fuel and get fat off of it. But your life is still going to be a waste if your DNA have other plans for you. Coconut oil won't help you.

Substitute 'avocado" for "coconut" and it's 2009 again.

Perhaps, but I'm not buying it--literally and figuratively. I leave my health to my western-medicine doctors, my DNA/genetics, God/prayer, well-rounded exercise (ballet and running in particular), a well-balanced diet (greasy food one meal, broiled salmon and asparagus the next), liquor and beer with friends on the weekends, and common sense.

I feel no need to squeeze out an extra 5 years of life, if the quality of the 50 years before that and the 5 extra years is cut in half from yo-yo diets, insane exercise routines, abstention from alcohol/parties, and otherwise burdening regimes that, by the way, are perpetuated by MONEY FOR MONEY.

Thank you, that'll be $20 for the supplements, and my new book will be in hard cover next month, you can pre-order it for $15.99 on Kindle today!

Oh, wow. You really put me in my place! I shouldn't ever attempt to have any postings or opinions since I fail to meet your standards.

It may seem odd to you all, but I think it works.

From what I have read about babies being given coconut oil products to bost their immune systems and actually worked was very impressive. The study concluded it actually reversed the HIV-YES, HIV, found in these babies.

It has many unique compounds and can heal burns, aid the body by creating more T-Cells and it's a natural anti viral. So try it and see! Can't hurt you like so many BIG PHARMACY can! Sounds like a win!

I use it daily and find I have lower cholesterol and I keep/stay really healthy!

coconut oil has a significant concentration of lauric acid.
lauric acid is what babies get from breast milk to boost the immune system.
studies have shown that one table spoon daily significantly improves your immune system.
