Roger and Serina have such great all around strengths. I think they will win. I am a huge fan of both of them and I have been for long time now. I always knew Serina would move ahead of Venus worldwide. However, there are always upsets and I look forward to watching as many matches as i can. _Tivo_. There are some other great talent out there and some of the new players have promise.

Who do i want to win?

Well as of the draw right now..

Zvonareva or Dementieva or Zheng Jie

Serena Williams or Safina will take the title, most likely Serena

and mens..

I think Murray or Djokovic will take the title
Maybe Nadal

D'oh! I picked Jankovic and Roger and nearly lost both in one day.

Give it up to Federer - he made a helluva comeback last night. But let's be honest: Berdych had that match in the third and made some of the most boneheaded errors you can make. Once it went four, it was all over.

I still think Roger will win, but Rafa is (for some reason) flying under the radar. Should be fun!

Gimme Serena now that Jankovic is gone.

Realistic-Andy Murray

Although not very likely I would really like to see Roddick win the tournament and do well this year.

My vote is for Serena to take it on the women's side.

Roger's survival of the Berdych onslaught improves his chances. Ditto Safina, who, btw, looks incredible.

Disappointed by the three retirements today. I think Serena would have found a way to eke out the two final sets against Azarenko, but Simon/Monfils was an intriguing match. I don't know who I would have picked to win it. Monfils was playing very cerebral tennis for at least the first set.

Rafa and the Andys all look sharp. I'm very excited for week 2.

Might come down to who has the best conditioning / can survive the heat. Forecast for each of the next 5 days (Tue - Sat) in Melbourne is over 38C (100F). Players might be begging for night matches! Potentially they could close the roof on the main stadium.

Still with Serena for the women.

Now that Murray is out, I'm for my long shots-Roddick and Blake.

Still sentimental-Rafa-will be first hard court championship and Federer-to tie Sampras' record

Serena got lucky last night. If Azarenka didn't look like she was about to die (seriously - girl looked like she took a punch from Ali) Serena might have lost.

Women's side is crazy wide open. Serena's the favorite, but if Dementieva is playing damn well, and if Safina actually keeps her head on for the rest of the tournament, she could be dangerous.

I'll stick with Roger, but Rafa was awesome last night. And how about Verdasco? Great match against Murray. Should be a fun last week.

After watching the games today, I have to shift my favorites around. After the first week was done I was leaning towards Safina on the girls side and Djokovic on the men's. But I'm now leaning towards Zvonerava after watching her absolutely dismantle Bartoli and with Safina barely getting through.

As much as I love Roddick, especially the new, lighter, leaner Andy, I still have to go with Djokovic. So hot, and such big game. Plus until someone knocks him out, ya gotta go with the returning champ.

Interesting, it looks like you spoke too soon. Although I must agree that Djokovic is hot! I thought I was the only one. Definitely the cutest match-up in tennis tonight.

Sentimental men's: Roddick of course

Realistic: Nadal

Sentimental Women's: Serena

Realistic: Safina?

Djokovic ticked me off last night. Clearly he wasn't right through the second, third, and fourth set, but he decides to retire ONLY after he was broken in the fourth?

Please.

If you're that injured, retire in the third. But don't wait until you're clearly gonna get beat. Classless. Absolutely classless.

People are seriously underestimating Zvonareva... I actually pick her to win now

I saw her in Cincinnati 2006. She beat the living heck outta Jankovic AND Serena. Was shocking stuff - I thought she was ready for big things, but it's taken her a while to get in the big time. Perhaps this is her time.

For sure Serena

I'm fingers for Roddick, but Feds on fire.

I agree, but i don't think this is her open.

You're right, I spoke too soon. What I think was even more classless was Djokovic's press conference afterwards. He just kept making up excuses for why he lost. "Dude, you got beat by a guy who was a hell of a lot fitter than you." I'd love to see Roddick vs. Verdasco in the final. It would be neat to mix it up a bit. Plus, those two really seem to be the most fit of any of the men in the tournament left. Also, I really don't like Rafa and am sort of impartial with Fed.

As for the girls I'm still rooting for Safina, though I must say the match Serena played last night was awesome. I wouldn't mind seeing the two of them in the finals. I guess the only one I don't want to see is Dementiava. With her screeching and the fact that she looks like Moscow Barbie, it just turns me off.

Verdasco was flat-out awesome last night against Tsonga; same way he was against Murray. I don't know if he can keep up with Rafa, but dude's so damn fit - work with Gil Reyes has done wonders for the guy.

Roddick/Fed ... man, I'd love to see Andy win, but I just can't see it. Should be a fun match. Oh, if it only wasn't on at 330AM!!
