i'm writing a series about a man who becomes a wizard. It's much more involved in that but I won't give away too much detail. He's 33 years old and lives in Manhattan. He is a solitary type with an old soul. I've narrowed the choices down to Cornelius and Corbin. I was always set on Cornelius until I discovered the name Corbin. Now I am torn. Thoughts?

A 33 year-old named "Corbin" seems slightly more plausible.

I like Corbin as a name although it might be a reference to Corbin Fisher. Cornelius is too liturgical of a name. It's just not a name someone would give to their son in these modern days.

You'd have some 'slpainin to do if you used Cornelius. More a last century name - altough is Chevy Chase' real name. Also used in Norway and perhaps other Scandinavian countries. Cornelieus Vanderbuilt comes to mind. Corbin could be anyone - probably originally a last name.

You're going to be writing the name a LOT Neal, so simply choose the one you like. Both are fine.

Yes but remember what I said he is an old soul, and we really can't say who would name their baby watt based on the times. Thanks for your feedback

I don't see how age is relevant to his name but okay. Thanks for your feedback

Because if he were 120 years old, he would have been born when it was actually common to name boys "Cornelius."

Be aware that people of a certain age (mine) will forever associate the name Cornelius with Roddy McDowall in Planet of the Apes.

Then again, if your hero is a chimpanzee with an effette British accent, it may just work out for you.
