I'm too lazy to create accounts on a more appropriately-suited forum, but here's a long shot:

I recently discovered Hall and Oates' "She's Gone" and "Alone too long", and looked up the artist for more stuff like that, but I didn't like their other songs as much (at least the ones I found). I like Little Red's "Slow motion". Any other artists that have songs like these?

I also like stuff like Black Marbles' "A Great Design", and "Kaneda's Theme" from Akira. I like the similar ambience in both... the funny thing is Black Marbles has several other songs that are similar, but none I like nearly as much. Any recommendations?

Sounds like you're aiming for the soulful 70's.

Hall and Oates varied from soulful to a bit boppy. Another good, rock and soul one of theirs was Sara Smile.

There was a lot of that back then. We had great music. Lemme google...

    Look, a whole list

    http://www.soultracks.com/70s-songs

Lots of good songs on their list.

A lot of the Marvin Gaye stuff and just about anything by Stevie Wonder. I'll just cut/paste a few good ones...

Me and Mrs. Jones - Billy Paul

Didn't I (Blow Your Mind This Time) - The Delfonics

Midnight Train to Georgia - Gladys Knight and the Pips

a lot of the stuff from the Spinners

Yeah, there's a lot of really good ones on there.

Love love love Fantasy - Earth Wind & fire

    Every man has a place
In his heart there's a space
And the world can't erase his fantasies
Take a ride in the sky
    On our ship, fantasize
All your dreams will come true right away

    And we will live together
    Until the twelfth of never
Our voices will ring forever, as one

    Every thought is a dream
    Rushing by in a stream
Bringing life to the kingdom of doing
Take a ride in the sky
    On our ship, fantasize
All your dreams will come true miles away

    Our voices will ring together
    Until the twelfth of never
We all will live love forever, as one

    Come to see victory
    In a land called fantasy
    Loving life, a new degree
Bring your mind to everlasting liberty

As one, come to see victory
    In a land called fantasy
Loving life for you and me
To behold, to your soul is ecstasy

    You will find other kind
That has been in search of you
Many lives has brought you to
Recognize, it's your life now in review

And as you stay for the play
Fantasy has in store for you
A glowing light will see you through
    It's your day, shining day
    All your dreams come true

    **
    (Verse in Extended version only)
As you glide in your stride
With the wind as you fly away
Give a smile from your lips and say
I'm free, yes I'm free, now I'm on my way
    **
    Come to see victory
    In a land called fantasy
Loving life for you and me
To behold, to your soul is ecstasy

    You will find other kind
That has been in search of you
Many lives has brought you to
Recognize, it's your life now in review

Toto? Asia? Starland Vocal Band? Dunno... I have to admit that I've actually bought one or two of those late-night-tv-ish 70's compilations that seemed to have a good groove going.

You can plug in a few songs to Pandora and see what it comes up with. Once in a while it works.

Yeah I tried Pandora, but to no success. I rarely have enough faith in a particular artist to just go through all their songs to find what I like. Perhaps people can post individual songs (youtube)? I mean like the absolute pick of the crop level songs, nothing less!

I am a sucker for anything R&B, Had V103FM on this afternoon here in Chicago and this song played. It's from the 90's but never heard it before. It's going on my ipod.
