This measure would clearly be an END RUN around LGBT marriage, and therefore void as discriminatory intent.

GOPers are so lame and transparent.

Do they realize this would mean a marriage license would no longer carry any of the 1500 Federal and State benefits it currently does?

Yeah, I have a life-size picture of Conservatives giving up their tax exemptions. icon_rolleyes.gif

    Wouldn't end equal marriage, however.

    Metropolitan Community CHurch
    Unitarian Universalises.
    United Church of Christ
    Religious Society of Friends

will all marry same sex couples and the UUs and some Quakers also atheists or agnostics

However, because QUakers do not have clergy, so say only clergy can marry somoene is discriminatory and discriminating against religious beliefs....

Hahaha. Funny. The only thing Republicans care about more than hurting minorities is money. Well, maybe not true... They also love war. Did you see the Conservative sanctions on Iran are being mirrored by Conservative bills in the Iranian Parlement to go straight to nuclear grade fuel? Conservatives unite! Kill!

lol BINGO, you beat me to it. They have no idea what a massive can of worms they're opeing, and as a result the only people they'll hurt will be STRAIGHT couples that are either intermarrying (different faiths where you are not allowed to marry outside your faith) and atheists or non denominational couples.

Hmmm ... something about "excessive entanglement?" This bill's a lemon from the get-go, though it might be fun to follow the briefing when it gets challenged and struck down in court.

Republicans fan the flames of anti-gay hate yet again.
This is why they must be voted out of office.

Thank you. The Republican MO is this:

(1). Throw a rock (to fire up the base/bigots)
(2). Hide your hand (but don't denounce the ensuing hate)
(3). When attacked, claim that wasn't an "official" party line and otherwise do the "no true Scotsman" fallacy as some misguided excuse for the bigotry.

What that comment? No, what I MEANT to say was....

The sponsor is not a lawyer. The proposal will go nowhere.

Err, I'm from Tulsa, OK and fairly familiar with its politics. I anticipate this being brought to a vote. It might pass. IF it passes Governor Mary Fallin (the meanest and most bigoted governor OK has seen in decades) will sign it.

I welcome such displays of desperate idiocy from these people. Let everyone see these jerks for exactly what they are.

    In other news........
In Alabama there are legislators threatening to ban all marriages!!!!
LET THEM!!!! All this will accomplish is to make victims of all the straight people wishing to get married and anger them.

Just yesterday afternoon the judge who struck down the Alabama amendment banning gay marriage issued another ruling that the state Attorney General DOES have to enforce the ruling contrary to their only half rational argument against it.
    http://thinkprogress.org/lgbt/2015/01/27/3616085/alabama-marriage-equality-decision-number-two/

And of course it's time to call in the circus when all else else fails. Alabama's notorious state supreme court justice, Roy Moore had to get in on the act. He's the one who illegally put a ten commandments monument in the state supreme court building in 2000. SPLC has jumped on him....

Here's a great story about the drama in Bama....

A lesbian in the state legislature intends to start outing anti-gay legislators having extra marital affairs to expose the hypocrisy of them even pronouncing the words "family values."

Will any of them marry atheists, or will atheists have to pretend to be religulous in order to wed?

There are about 380+ thousand atheists in Oklahoma. How many are single is anyone's guess.

Wow! I hope there's enough room in hell for all those infidels! The Devil must be so very pleased to have that many thousands of souls to punish for eternity. Meanwhile, murderers are just doing what they're told!!icon_rolleyes.gif

Of course, you COULD stick to the subject - which is marriage.

As for atheists and hell, no one knows, not even you. I'm glad you're not religious, because the way you understand it and apply it is the same as westboro.

What do you mean, no one knows? The first thing it says in the Quran is that God punishes atheists. And, btw, I only read that because you had told me to read it. It just shook me up and made me mistrust religion more than ever.icon_evil.gif

In science, the shortest span of time is called Planck Time, about 10 to the minus 44 of a second. It is the amount of time it takes light to travel a Planck Length.

In transportation, Honk Time is roughly half Planck Time. It is the amount of time it takes for a light to change before the asshole behind you honks their horn.

In politics, Tea Time is roughly negative 100 years. It is the amount of time it takes for a Tea Party sponsored reactionary law to be passed before the ACLU challenges it (and defeats it) in federal court. Essentially time runs backward for the Tea Partiers, receiving their defeat 100 years before the bill's passage.

So clergy issuing state licences, makes them state employees, and thus the clergy positions would have to be open to all religions right?
