Dems Introduce LGBT Rights Bill In Both Chambers

"When President Obama addressed the nation and committed to defending the human rights of the LGBT community, we made that commitment to the world." Senator Ed Markey who sponsored the Senate bill."

"The Human Rights Defense Act would give new tools to the U.S. State Department that would allow it to react to discrimination and violence toward LGBT communities worldwide. It would immediately create a special envoy within the State Department to respond to reports of violence toward LGBT communities globally. It would also require the State Department to create a LGBT section in their annual country by country report on human rights. The bill also calls for congress to adopt a global strategy to address discrimination against the LGBT community.

While a bill proclaiming the universal rights of gay people might seem a hard sell to the Republicans in charge of both houses, the Democrats have one incentive this year that they didn't have last summer. If congress does not act, most of the provisions in the Human Rights Defense Act are things President Obama could do on his own with an executive order. Congress may decide to pass a bill they can debate and ammend rather than risk the president's unilateral action."

Why is this year different from any other in terms of what Obama might do in terms of executive action - apart from scoring political points courtesy of a cause on which he's vacillated, to say the least? He's had over six years to wield his pen; why wait until now? The term "stringing along" comes to mind.

It's simply not needed. I wish they'd spend more effort fighting radical Muslim terrorists and not waste time on this silliness.

I would much rather Obama and Congress spend time on this nation's most pressing issues like the infrastructure, education, economy, fighting poverty, etc.

Please. you make it sound like it's impossible to walk and chew gum at the same time.

Maybe we ought to hold yet another vote to repeal the affordable care act. since that's so much better a use of time.

I'm not sure a Republican can walk and chew gum at the same time. That would be kind of like teaching a monkey to drive a car.

How about they do all of it if they can? Just a thought.

Here's Obama praising his "Good Friend" the Sultan Of Brunei who passed a law to execute gays by stoning:

Obama is rewarding the Sultan by negotiating a free trade agreement with Brunei.

Liberals: How many more gays do you intend to exterminate?
