There have been quite a few threads about guys feeling bored, lonely, etc.

If you're looking to improve your social life, I suggest that you join 'Meetup'. It's free and there are so many different groups. It's easy; just type your location and look for the specific groups that you think you'll fit in.

    Have a go. Good luck!

I've done the meetup.com groups in my area (DC) and was actually kind of disappointed. Most of the guys were really snooty and stuck up. I may try some other groups later on, but the first experience for me wasn't too good.

I just joined like 2 weeks ago. My first meetup is tonight. I'm excited, we'll see how it goes.

There's only one gay group here and its just as representative of the gay community as going into a bar is for the most part. I prefer dishcrawl.com as it gives a much more adventurous and varied, if not 100% gay, crowd

UGH! I signed up and everything in my local area was Xristian oriented icon_sad.gif

Craigslist also has a Group section, but so far I have really seen anything of interest for my area either ... also a lot of Xristian stuff

    EDIT

ok, looks like there are a couple of lgbt groups .. thanks

Agreed, I have joined a couple of them here in the Bay Area, so far only one genuine person out of 40 people that I met. I will continue to search other groups but so far, not what I expected.

Interesting concept - there are six groups listed within 30 miles of me. None seem really relevant. Only two of them have held more than one meeting. 30-Something Girls (113 past meet ups!) and Gamers (19 past meet ups.)

I want to give everyone who joins one of those groups a big hug (and I mean that in the least patronizing way possible).

Monthly fee if you want to start a group. To join groups is free.

I do meetup.com as well. Have gone out hiking in LA area with the group and met up to play Scrabble with others too. icon_biggrin.gif

Go to the straight or non gay oriented events and the problem will be solved.

It's called cars and coffee in Irvine Spectrum every Saturday morning 4,000 - 6,000 cars.

There's another one on the way down there called Donut Derelicts at Adams and Magnolia in HB, but gay cars probably wouldn't be much appreciated there. It's not like they going to chase you out or anything, but it's probably the wrong crowd. Plus it starts at 5:30 am. After all, the old men have to get up that early to take a piss anyway.

And of course, Bob's Big Boy in Toluca Lake on Friday night.

And the big one that is 95% homosexual oriented is www.greatautos.org/. Great fun. I even enjoyed that one all those years.

    I know I've posted this about a 1,000 times..

I've done a few around here concerning photography and actually enjoyed it. Funny thing was how many people had my camera. By this summer the D-7100s will be gone and we'll have D-750s.

Dummy me bought a crop frame versus a full frame.

    That should be...interesting.

I always seem to have the most amusing luck with car clubs. As a teen/20-something, i was in an import/tuner club here in New Orleans. I was openly gay at that point and nobody gave a rats ass (we're talking pseudo-Fast & Furious kinda guys).

I then joined a Miata club which was full of middle-aged (and older) men who were a little uncomfortable with such an openly-gay (and liberal) member, heheh

Why on earth would they be uncomfortable with a very homosexual Miata member? They're driving a Miata too so what's that say about them?

What a great idea, OP. Thank you. It's a very interesting site and in my densely populated area there are so many choices.

pazzy saidyou're just discovering that NOW? damn, you're late. icon_lol.gif don't know how long meetup.com been around for but i've been known about that site for years. pretty much got the hookup while looking for gay groups to mingle with when i was trying to look for support groups and gay people to meet up with.

Well, lucky you! And you shld have shared this with the RJ community earlier! lol

Yeah, I'm also a little surprised that there are some who aren't aware of meetup.com. Grows to show that there are things that either we know or just don't know and it's the job of those who know to share it and spread the word ...

Am sure there are other groups where there are some genuine people; so don't give up!

actually mentioned it a couple of times casually but guess nobody listened or reads my posts except when it comes to me being negative and ranting. then again, that's those people and they know who they are too. fuck em.

I see; some ppl rather rant and moan and don't listen ... pretty much human nature ...

My experience with meetup is that it's a good way to find partners or groups for an activity, but few people seem to be interested in cultivating friendships outside the activity.

My biggest injection of friends in the past decade was graduate school.
