What is sad here is that I am sure you meant no harm by this post. However, you can't possibly know what it is like to be a black person that hears these kinds of comments and is hurt by them.

There is a thread on gay youth suicide resulting from negative images presented by society. It is easy for many of us to see how these kids are pushed to the edge every day by society, and then one day something makes them snap.

I'm sure there are some people who may find this funny, but is it worth the laugh at the expense of those who may be seriously hurt by this? You have no idea whether someone in our forums is currently struggling with the issues of being both black and gay in our community.

It is not only saying things with the intent to be mean that hurts people, sometimes all it takes is a poorly considered comment.

I'm sure I'll be lambasted as someone without a sense of humor. Frankly, I do think this post is in very bad taste, and shows a distinct lack of compassion for others.

Call me blonde, but I don't get it (the joke or the negativity)... dunno, maybe because I didn't watch the film.

It's an offensive (and not even funny) racist joke. I would feel offended to receive it, and quite frankly rnch you should feel ashamed to have repeated it.

    Tsk! guys.

    Here's the joke explained.

Yesterday was the swearing in of Obama. The offensive joke is saying the event was like an episode of the Planet of the Apes (Tv series where apes are in control of the earth). Black president = ape. Racist.

ps. maybe it's best not to get the joke

If you're going to be racist, could you at least be more hot about it?

I just saw that movie for the first time the other night.

that shower scene was intense; and then at the very end when he's running into the bathroom for his brother.

    wow.

(not racist, just wanted to derail the thread. don't kill me.)

It took me a second as well and when I figured out what was meant by it, I was rather pleased that my brain does NOT work like that. So take heart, mutt, it's not a bad thing.

I thought it was moderately funny, more or less because I know RJ is full of a bunch of over-sensitive politically-correct liberals. So I was looking forward to the raminifications of your joke, and yep ...it was met with a mob of snobby: "that wasn't funny, you oppress minorities further meeeeehhhhhh, meh meh meh meh ,...MEHH!!"

    Btw here's a text I got a lot on Nov 4:

"Attention all white people: please report to the president on the fields at 7am tomorrow morning."

The fact that you have to EXPLAIN the joke makes this thread more dry than a great-grandpa's penis. Common are you serious? No one is stupid enough not to get the joke. God damn ...it's like you just learned the English language last week.

If you didn't say anything racist then you should be smart enough to know that you are exempt from my statement. I didn't accuse EVERY post of being over-sensitive did I you little islander? DID I !?!

You just got served with a bucket of tranny hot mess.

Now carry me. I am your god.

I am sure we are going to hear a lot of racist jokes in the future. There are a lot of people out there that are very unhappy and uncomfortable with a black man as the leader of our country.

I think we should confront these comments whenever we hear them, just like we should confront any stereotypical gay and homophobic comments.
