Why is there so much junk on these forums?

Rudeness, gratuitous porn, trolls, semi-trolls, people who bait trolls, people who have something like 11,000 posts but don't seem to read anything over longer than 2 sentences carefully, self-proclaimed "virgins" doling out dating advice -- the list could go on. And on a site dedicated to health and fitness. Why?

I understand that you find all that as absurd. Yes this is a health and fitness site, but it's also used as a social networking tool. Anytime you have online blogs, there are fights. Anytime you got a way to post a forum, you get some skanky stuff. It's sad to see all that whether they're fights or whatever. I don't like getting into fights myself but as a male I can't let anyone win over me.

I block a lot of people and people who happened to reply to trolls. I cannot stand seeing their name replied. Most people who lived in cave man era would probably had gotten kicked out for repetitive harassment.

Well, damn! There would be nothing left if you eliminated all you mentioned.

No moderators. These forums have been going downhill for years.

And let's face it. Look at the new member list. Most of those guys aren't here for health/fitness. They're here to gawk at all the really hot pics of fake profiles. icon_lol.gif

I know, right? Young people these days -- *SMH* -- just don't appreciate the finer things of forum life.

As for not being able to read anything over 2 sentences...thank FACEBOOK and TWITTER especially. It's taught people that 2 words is all that's needed to understand one another.

I have a friend who was a victim of a hate crime/mugging and posted his bloody photo on facebook the next day. He had like 20 comments...but they were literally all: sorry, hope you're okay. Just a bunch of 3 or 4 word statements. Nobody couldn't even offer any sound advice. Then again, he didn't do a good job of engaging anyone who asked relevant questions. Facebook is just a fucking stupid platform for everyone to be up in everyone's business. I'm only there for keeping up to date on friend's parties lol.

I posted like 5 comments that were a page long...Giving him advice and pointing out how he may have contributed to it (I've known him awhile and he tends to find ways to end up in some pretty risky situations especially while drunk) and how to avoid it in the future.

While I don't use Faceache or Twitter, I think there is a lot to be said (no pun intended) for brevity and succinctness when commenting via social media (I include the RJ forums in this category). If you want to ramble on, get a blog. As for a friend in need, perhaps his problems are better addressed face-to-face or over the phone.
