Over the past couple of days I’ve been chatting with a fellow RJ member; it started off as “How are you?” “How’s the weather were you are?’ blah, blah, blah nothing to intense. As our communications were getting more personal he revealed his career to me, it’s a job that requires intelligence and command of the English language. His name and profile picture would suggest that he’s Anglo-American, but, the errors in his grammar I’m starting to think that English is not his first language and that he has set up a fake profile to fish for personal information.

Has anyone encountered someone like this?

Sorry to be blunt. But if he's out your league, then yes it's a fake/spammer/scammer. This site has a history of scammers preying on older guys.

Also, the Verification system here is a joke. There have been several "Verified" guys that actually turned out to be fakes.

I've been contacted by several guys on here lately who posted fake pics. Not trying to scam me, just trying to make me believe they're hotter than they really are.

Over the holidays with nothing much better to do I traced a few of these pics to their origins, reported them to the site admin and included links to the original source. Nothing. The fake profiles are still up and the admin didn't even respond to my mails. Well, at least I was able to shame one of the guys into taking down the fake pics and posting real ones (I assume they're real - they ain't that good looking).

My new strategy will be to notify the people whose pics were stolen, and suggest they threaten legal action if the pics aren't removed. Could be fun!

I just did this--contacted the guy thru his linkedin account to tell him someone was using his pic here.

I don't know why these people chose fitness models. They would catch more fish with average Joe pictures.

Be aware, not all fakes use fitness models' pics. Those are just the easiest ones to spot.

The one I most recently identified was using the pics of a nice looking but really pretty average guy, who happened to be written up on a few websites because he'd started a rather innovative business. There were three or four matching face pics, mostly casual shots and definitely not model material.

I only became suspicious because the fake sent me a couple waist-down photos in private, apparently to impress me - and I recognized the background as a Sean Cody set! icon_redface.gif

I was first catfished in 1999, recently cheated on, barely made it through undergrad do to the drama and I was ripe for the picking. Planned to move my entire life with this guy who was in another state (me the dumb ass doing that do fast). Flew out to meet him, picked up the rental. I was excited until someone 300+ pounds heavier than expected came out the door. Won't even get into how many people were living in that 2 bed apartment (not the house he always talked about) or how I left him, his friend and aunt at a gas station. He never even addressed the fact that he was 300+ pounds and 10 years older. Just kept taking non stop like I wouldn't fucking notice. Thar bastard still owes me for half the flight and rental.

I haven't trusted the net since. I don't understand the logic. Aren't they going to see you eventually? If the person is attracted to your fake pic, how does that benefit you? I don't get it. And using the pic of someone who's been featured in a news story, baffles me. I don't get it. icon_evil.gif

Also, be aware that women create fake profiles on gay sites like this. Either they're looking for pics to masturbate to, or their husbands ignore them and they come here to fulfill their emotional needs.

As a rule of thumb, don't invest much of your time/energy into someone you just met online. If you think there's a potential connection for either friendship or romance, get on cam to see that he's real. Skype, Facetime, Google Hangouts.. Just video chat for a few minutes to make sure he's legit.

Yeah. I reverse image search by dragging and dropping their image into the Google image search bar. Tells if they are fake or real usually

Seems like a lot of work. If I ever have to do it again, I'll stick to asking you what's in your shopping basket while you re standing in front of me in the grocery line and what time should I come for dinner. Plus, there is so much more I can learn, much more quickly with a 5 minute face to face than 20 profile pics and a few emails.

Funny - Even though I'm gay, I can't imagine that while watching porn, I'd be taking note of the upholstery or wallpaper.

I have been contacted by a couple lately. One is actually older than me doesn't appear to be a fake but I was a little confused when he sent an email the other night that was identical to the first one he sent me. The other we messaged back and forth a few times. I am confused about since a lot of people are making comments about his photos but think it may be fake. I'm definitely no model but I found my face used to create a fake profile on another site, caused me no end of trouble before it was over.

I'm verified and have face pics in my profile for anyone I chat to, but I've had people use my pics on Craigslist, manhunt, and Grindr. I've even had shirtless pics (without face) sent to my employer trying to get me in trouble from some crazy. For that reason I feel it best I control who gets to see my face pics. But unfortunately, there aren't a lot of guys in my area on RJ to worry about.

It was a shower, with two heads, side by side. It's used in a lot of very hot Sean Cody vids. Um, allegedly. So I hear.

If a profile is full of professional/modeling photos, you should at least be suspicious.

@TPM1, I've encountered a few requesting me to contact them on outside e-mail servers. Some use lengthy "form" e-mails that are easily detectable.

I think he contacted me too a while ago. I reported his message as SPAM without giving any further thought.

That's usually the best way I think.

TO give this site credit though, I have met a handful of guys on here who are not fake, and really awesome awesome guys. Don't let a couple of bad experiences jade you. there's some really good men out there in the world.

That is funny. I am doubting this is the actual porn star. I suggested that he get verified since there are unfortunately Nigerian scammers on this site. I seriously doubt that is the actual porn actor.

How about this one? I messaged him a few times after he messaged me but then he sent me the original message with the original line out of the blue. This struck me as odd. http://www.realjock.com/profile?id=928765. He is definitely not someone out of my league and someone I would expect to try and pick me up in real life.
