Pope Comes Out Against Transgender People

Just in case you thought the world was getting a new, nicer pope, consider his recent polemic comparing transgender people to evil nuclear weapons.

    http://www.gaystarnews.com/article/pope-francis-compares-trans-people-nuclear-weapons190215

But wait - Maybe the pope got it wrong. Didn't god create the atom, and the processes of fission and fusion? And thus also, the process of a nuclear explosion? After all, didn't he create the sun, to show us how it all works? So, then, how could he think nuclear weapons are bad? Just an example of man trying to emulate god's perfection.

This pope is more liberal, but I believe he's only doing this in a deceptive way to entice gays to become Catholic, so he can grow the church and get more money.

'Let's think also of genetic manipulation, of the manipulation of life, or of the gender theory, that does not recognize the order of creation.'

'With this attitude, man commits a new sin, that against God the Creator,' the pope adds.

So if a child is born with a defect, even a life threatening one, it would by that logic be manipulation against God the Creator.

Bingo. However, give this Pope some time to think things through. He once stated some awful things about gays quite some time ago.

    Liberal?!?

What always amuses me about US Right wing religiosity is that Christ was a jobless beggar, preached social contracts, told the wealthy to give it all away, and hung out with tax collectors and sinners. How the Conservatives of the day (Pharisees) hated him.

When you read past the (as usual) sensationalistic headline you see that what the Pope said seems very much in line with the church's teachings/positions. (Btw, I'm not Catholic.) It's like getting hysterical over the fact that the sun rose in the east today.

True, but the thing about the Bible is that it's full of contradictions, therefore it gives the devotee full permission to pick and choose which "truths" they wish to believe and promote. Simply by omitting a few sections you can easily transform Jesus into any type of personality you want.

That's why intelligent reading/interpreting requires more than just picking and choosing.

Nobody's getting hysterical. And not terribly shocked either. Just noting the hypocrisy of the church, with the emphasis on the new, improved, enlightened, kinder and gentler pope, when his doctrine hasn't changed after all. He's a bit more openly sympathetic to sinners, but is the sympathy much different from that of the clergy who sympathetically prayed for the souls of those they were burning at the stake?

Not a catholic, so I don't fully understand the reasoning [sic] behind their theology. It would be so much better for them, if, like the Mormon pope (he's got some other title I can't remember) can have a "revelation" from god to tell him that doctrine X was wrong, and is henceforth supplanted by doctrine Y. (e.g., when blacks suddenly became acceptable overnight after having been untouchable since Cain and Abel). The church could benefit immensely from the pope having similar bad dreams.

He is the biggest drag of all! But that is not the same as being a transgender, so in this matter I understand him...there has to be a line drawn to somewhere. I state this as a cis gay man. But I wouldn´t go so far, that I see them as a nuclear bomb (whatever that means)

The "Gay Star" news headline was hysterical, IMO.

I am not Christian first off

Secondly, typical gay thing to attack him, especially his clothes icon_rolleyes.gif I mean, really?

Just like gays can't understand straight people or anyone else who disagrees with their agenda, the pope and many other people can't necessarily understand transgendered people. He is just saying how he thinks it may be wrong to change yourself. I wouldn't say it's a natural thing but not wrong either.

Anyway, the church in my opinion shouldn't alter their beliefs, etc just to get more people to come. No one should cave just because everyone else says they should

    This isn't real news btw

Nothing to get angry over---in the mean time, ISIS and other middle eastern terror groups are raping women, killing children and murdering gay people

I agree 100 percent, this pope is a massive improvement over the previous hate mongering lunatic. It is going to be a Herculaneum task to move a huge established institution rooted in medieval thought into the enlightened future.

Catholics believe the pope is a direct channel to god so terms like guy bro need not apply. The magnificent pontiff would work tho.

Studies have shown that leaving out the context only convinces the least educated, laziest motherfuckers. Who are clearly 90% of humanity.

Why does anyone take this person seriously? To me, it's no different than giving credence to tabloids such as the National Enquirer. It's nonsense. Religious nutcases should be ignored, until they become violent, in which case they should then be restrained and executed.

I'm guessing the issue he has isn't about the clothing they wear but the fact that they're altering the parts he perceives God gave them. Trying to change yourself from a man to a women is considered blasphemous in most religions so it should be of no great surprise he's against this.
