What do you think of visible tattoos and piercings on a doctor? Good idea? Not?
If your doctor had visible tattoos and piercings would you respect him less? Trust him less?
I'm not talking about having "F-U-C-K" tattooed on my knuckles. Or a tear tattoo on the face. But what about a sleeve?

tastefully done, as with all tattoos, it wouldn't bother me.
Piercings...well those are kinda private, unless it is his ears...and those I find sexy...Plus I want to get my ears pierced, so it would be rather odd for me to discriminate.

No issue here... Not my doctor, but a colleague who does a a similar job as mine in a different firm is a qualified professional with at least both arms covered in Tats. Professionally, he wears long sleeve shirts to keep them covered, but has no issue rolling up his sleeves when necessary and has no problem showing that he has ink.

I've not yet gotten up enough courage to ask him to take his shirt off so I can admire his 'art'... but that's a story for a different forum... icon_wink.gif

My point is, ink should not prejudge capability or professionalism.

It would depend, some piercings are risky and unhealthy. Some tatts are ugly and unprofessional. If he or she showed bad judgement with these, I would have less confidence in their ability. I might be wrong, but these things would be part of my decision process to go to them initially.

As people have said it early, it depends how and where.
Tacky tattos are no no. For me, nose piercing is a big FAT NO!

    Agreed.

It's also a sign that the person is more concerned with following current fashion trends. But with younger people it's hard for them to avoid that.
