    Straight? ACTORS?

No, you must be mistaken. There's no such thing.

It's called acting. If an actor is good, he can play various types of personalities. These days, which gender an actor sleeps with has no relation to what roles he gets. Gay actors have been playing straight men for years. Whether an actor gets cast depends mostly on how close he is to the image of the role in the mind of the director and casting director. Can gay actors sing? How about Neil Patrick Harris? Cute young ones who can sing? I'm sure they are out there.

Yeah, totally no reason to have straight actors play gay and gay actors play straight.

But the amount of shade you are throwing at Chris Colfer... Just say it. Don't be so British.

I would love to see Matt Boomer or Neal Patrick Harris in a gay role. However, I really think that doing that would hurt their careers. These 2 guys in particular are seemingly excellent role models for the gay community but they are also actors, wanting to earn their living by acting. If they played a gay character, I really don't think the straight folks would like it. Randy Harrison did an excellent job in 'Queer As Folk' and Sean Hayes did likewise in 'Will & Grace' but I don't see their careers skyrocketing. Besides, the very limited sexual scenes (in Will & Grace particularly) was fine for the straights but left the gays wanting more. icon_rolleyes.gif

Harris or Bomer could play any role today without hurting their careers (except maybe with explicit gay sexual scenes). And Harris has already played a pretty far out sexual role on Broadway in Hedwig - and still is a fav at the Oscars and Tonys.

You have to admit that the Oscars and Tonys is a very gay-friendly audience. The damage to their careers I referred to was what Hiker said about them playing in an explicit gay sexual scene. I really don't believe straight America would tolerate it well. Sad for sure but I think true.

Um... did Jake Gyllenhall's career tank after Brokeback Mountain? How about Heath Ledger's? (pre-death, I mean)

Granted, there was no "explicit" gay sex - it wasn't porn - but it was about as explicit as gay sex gets in a movie made for mainstream audiences.

You're right on this one Bro. I have never seen Brokeback and never appreciated Gyllenhall so I have to admit that my thoughts are quite biased. Thanks for the heads up.

How about simply because there are more straight actors than there are gay actors just like in the general population there are more straight people then there are gay people

    1. I'm sure all the equal rights activists that fought to include sexual orientation (gay AND straight) as a protected class against harassment and discrimination, wouldn't want to see it reversed so gay actors can get more jobs.
    2. I'm sure all the gay actors would be unhappy if they could no longer land straight roles.
    3. Glee's creator/producer Ryan Murphy is as gay as they come. I'm sure he's looking out for our peeps.

    No Ryan Murphy does not...
I just think there should be a hot gay guy playing a gay guy on glee... That is all.
