I don't know if this has been discussed here before.
It happened on New Year's Day.

Gay couple kicked out of Uber taxi in London after 'kissing and cuddling each other on the back seat'

A gay couple claim they were chucked out of a taxi operated by Uber because they were kissing and cuddling.

Jordan Sloat said the driver told them he usually took gay couples but 'they don't usually do that sort of thing' after he ordered them out of the taxi in London.

Mr Sloat and his partner Corey Watts, 23, had been in the car just minutes when the driver pulled over in Covent Garden and told them to get out at about 8pm on New Year's Day.

'I felt shocked - you don't expect that sort of homophobic reaction in London,' Mr Sloat told ITV News.

The couple, who had been on their way to a friend's house, were forced to get another taxi.

Uber confirmed the driver had been suspended since the incident and they were investigating.

Mr Sloat added: 'We were kissing and cuddled next to each other when a minute or two after picking us up he pulled over and told us to get out.

He said he was shocked by the reaction and asked the driver if it was because they were gay. He allegedly told them he picked up gay couples all the time but they 'don't normally do this.'

Mr Sloat, who comes from Toronto, said he was shocked to witness this kind of behaviour in London and said his partner became angry - accusing the driver of 'disgusting homophobia.'

After the incident Mr Watts, a hair stylist from Cardiff, wrote on Twitter: 'Just got asked to get out of an @Uber cab for kissing my boyfriend. Flipped my s***.'

The couple were initially charged for the journey but this was later refunded.

Uber runs a taxi service in cities across the world and allows people to use an app to get a quote for a journey and order a car through their smartphones.

In a statement Uber said: 'Uber does not tolerate any form of discrimination either by our partner drivers or towards our partner drivers.

'We opened an investigation from the moment we learned of this unacceptable incident and have been in contact with the rider to extended our sincere apologies and get further information.

'The driver concerned has been suspended from the Uber platform.'

A lot of readers commented that the driver did the right thing because the couple did something inappropriate in the cab: kissing....
    Do you agree with that?

If the uber victims have any self-respect, they will sue uber. They would get a pile of dough.

I'd throw them out too because I'd be so jealous.

Hahaha joking, but wow what a beautiful and happy looking couple- I am actually a bit jealous!

It will be an issue when they go beyond kissing. I can see if i were in my friend's car and he said not to do that. I would stop. Trying not to be rude. Since it was his car and he's driving.
But thats not the case. Uber offers transportation service to the public. It's a business. I doubt that you could get thrown out for kissing on the subway.
What the driver did was just that. And Uber didn't say that they have "no kissing" policy.
They just said they suspended the driver.
    So that says something.

i think they suspended the driver for public relations purposes or to get the GLAAD or these gay rights groups off their ass. icon_lol.gif

Well of course. Thats a no brainer.
But i think my point still stand.

i think they suspended the driver for public relations purposes or to get the GLAAD or these gay rights groups off their ass because the gay rights groups will milk that shit for what it's worth even if it holds no merit. it's more of a political move if anything.

i don't see how the gay discrimination thing plays here. if it were a straight couple that got told to stop, then it would hold absolutely no weight. why should these guys get a pass for something a straight couple probably wouldn't get a pass for though?

The thing is we have never heard a straight couple got thrown out for kissing in public spaces.
If uber believe with what you said they should have said so. Just say we dont allow kissing in our cabs. But they didnt. Maybe because there is no such policy. I see people hugging and kissing all the time but they never got arrested or got thrown out or something.

    well, okay.

still don't think that their case qualifies as being discriminated for being gay and there's plenty of folks in the section that think these guys are trying to take advantage of the "gay discrimination" card to suit their own self interest.

I can understand when people react that way and fight for it because they being treated unfairly. It's very human. I think they did just that. They had the right to speak up.

There's no way to prove that there was straight couple being tossed out for kissing.
But there was a gay couple being thrown out for kissing.
Uber has apologized to the gay couple.
Uber made a statement they dont discriminate against gays
    Uber suspended the driver
Uber didnt say they dont allow kissing for all their customers
The couple alleged the driver threw them out because they were gay, he didnt answer their allegation and just drove off.

Those are all the facts that we could gather from this incident.
Maybe thats not enough for you.
But thats enough for me to suspect that the driver threw the couple for being gay. Or showing their gay affection. Both are the same to me. I dont like people saying "i dont care you're gay but just dont rub it on my face by kissing". But they dont mind straight couple kissing. To me, that also a form of discriminTion and homophobia.

Uber needs to post signs in its cars: "NO TOUCHING, (Or we will dump you on the street."

In similar cases in the past, it has sometimes turned out that one person's idea of "kissing and cuddling" is different from another person's. For example, one person may think a handjob is part of cuddling. I would prefer to make a decision based on having the full facts (which will never happen in this case).

What a sick man for a taxi driver. He should find some other occupation, since he is so touchy. I´ve been kissing and hugging and cuddling and touching and feeling with a man many times in the back seat of a taxi and NEVER have I been treated badly. And I´ve been living in a much smaller city than London.

I bet that taxi driver was a muslim...icon_rolleyes.gif
