Does this mean he would have been just another Johnny Weir?

When I was 10, mid 70's, "the doctors" my parents took me to, thought I was mentally disordered for 'playing with my sisters dolls', turns out I had a growth hormone deficiency caused by an early childhood illness (caused by my parents neglect), was much smaller than the other kids at the same age, was the cause of my late puberty and the fact I never could develop any muscle, gain no weight and the trouble with voice development. Once I survived the initial illness, I barely made it through puberty as it was, as we all know NOW, that testosterone-androgen is a requirement for a boys development in these crucial years. Without proper testosterone development signals from the pituitary gland, the boy would become very effeminate, or at least somewhat androgynous.

I would hope Russell Tovey just thanks his parents that he didn't have hormone deficiency that may have contributed to his lack effeminately. I don't think his school he attended had any thing to do with his current amount masculinity icon_confused.gificon_rolleyes.gif

“I feel like I could have been really effeminate, if I hadn’t gone to the school I went to," he said. "Where I felt like I had to toughen up. If I’d have been able to relax, prance around, sing in the street, I might be a different person now. I thank my dad for that, for not allowing me to go down that path."

    So, anyway....

I read the article. I'm thinking there was probably more context to the interview, but, in any event -- God I think Russell Tovey is so cute. What program were those five youtube excerpts from. They were great!

Meanwhile, I recently watched season one of "Looking" on Amazon Prime. Loved it and can't wait for season two to be availalble. (I don't have a t.v. or HBO). These online discussions about RT made me realize I needed an RT fix so I've just started watching season one of the British t.v. series "Being Human" on Netflix. Russell is dreamy and I'm sure he doesn't hate effeminate people.

RT's reasoning is full of shit - it's been proven.

The boi is in show biz, I am sure his point of view comes from working within the, mostly closeted, industry. Being a nerdy scientist myself and knowing many engineers, I can relate, I haven't met too many effeminate science people, their schools have nothing to do with how masculine the men might be, that is just stupid.

These queers are even too uppity for me, I should have been a lawyer, more queers of all kinds icon_rolleyes.gificon_lol.gif

That's some logic there. He is handsome, he says stupid things, but yeah since he is handsome those stupid things aren't said by him. May be, once you get over him, then you would like to go back and read the amount of bigotry he spewed out.
Yeah, I really like watching Looking too, but RT is damn stupid to say such things publicly.

Ignorant, undereducated, and mic'd: A deadly combination.

The only "excuse" I can surmise is that his PR team (or he himself) wanted to differentiate between his on-going project Looking and his current project Banished, which are NOT similar. The whole gay/straight/masculine/feminine archetypes lead to "typecasting," which when defied leads to lower ratings. Given the situation, perhaps the powers that be wanted to push: I play gay/fem sometimes, but other times I'm super masculine.

IF you hear that enough, and commit to the line, and IF you're undereducated and ignorant, I can see a person making this glaring error. It's not just a line, it's line after line after line. He dug himself in deep.

My money is on a smart PR team that handed him a task too big (i.e., to differentiate himself as a versatile actor who has "masculine" sides and isn't all gay, gay, gay), and we ended up with this mess. Though I want to out bigots, I sense no ill-will in his statements, body of work, or life. This is the result of a meddling hand, an overambitious PR team looking to boost ratings and bring in viewers otherwise turned off by "the gays."
