Be sure to go to Blacks Beach; it is clothing optional. Park on the road just north of Salk Institute; you can find Salk Institute on the map or with google. Be careful where you walk to get down to the beach. Often people try walking down false paths, get themselves in a position on the cliff where they can go neither up nor down, and have to be rescued. Take the stairs. Wear footgear which provides good traction on loose sand.

Check out sdpix.com for latest goings on. Friday cocktails at Top of the Park is a must from 6-9 or so.

Hillcrest is a nice place. FLICKS bar is cool on University ave and one huge club, forget the name. Lots of cute hot military men down in SD.

Okey Dokey...a few tips from a San Diego boy.

First, commenting on some tips above. Bourbon St. is closed down, so forget about that. Top of the Park is also closed down, but has moved to the "Top of the Bay", closer to downtown. It's on the rooftop of the Porto Vista hotel now, and is honestly a great place, but a hit or miss crowd-wise.

What I recommend is for you to go to Mo's (Urban Mo's, officially). It's always fun, and always has a good crowd with approachable patrons. Ask the locals there where to go. Once you tell them what you're looking for, you'll be hooked up.

Depending on what you're looking for, there's:
    Mo's
    Rich's
    Flicks
    Numbers
    Gossip Grill
    The Loft
    Pecs
    The Hole
    #1 on Fifth
    Blacks Beach
    The Eagle
    Wine Steals
    The Hillcrest Brewing Company
    Baja Betty's
    Redwing
    Uptown Tavern
    Martini's Above Fourth
    Cheers
    ...and countless gay/gay friendly restaurants

So have fun...and welcome to SD..."America's Finest City".

Get off the 5 on Del Mar Heights Rd. Head west obviously then south of Del Mar.

Park on the north side off of Carmel Valley Rd in the beach lot or if that's full, just park on the road in front of that row of condos and walk south from there. It's a big hike, but no cliffs to deal with and you couldn't ask for a more beautiful walk.

Good comprehensive post, CBD; thanks for correcting me re: Top of Wherever. The Hole always has a HUGE crowd of older, L&L types on Sunday afternoons from around 4-9, some of which then migrates to Pecs.
