Texas Frat Bans Mexicans, Interracial Dating, And 'Fagetry'

"The nation this week was shocked when video surfaced showing University of Oklahoma students, members of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, chanting a racist song. "There will never be a n****r at SAE," the members pledged.

Now, the Chicago Sun Times reports that racist chant may be linked to another fraternity at the University of Texas, Austin.

One user of the popular social media site Reddit posted a photo of a set of confidential rules for pledges from Phi Gamma Delta (known as Fiji) at the Univ. of Texas.

Those rules, while they include "no drugs," and "Respect the Ladies," also include offensive ones like "No interracial dating," "no Mexicans," and – in all caps – "NO FAGETRY."

That last misspelled rule apparently means no gay people."

    ...

"Unlike Univ. of Oklahoma President David Boren, who immediately closed down SAE and kicked the entire frat membership out of their house, officials at UT have refused to take action for either of these issues, and even said the Border patrol party does not violate its rules."

Most of these rules are counterproductive and likely to produce, if anything, the very "deuschbags" they seek to ban. Referring to any fraternity as a "frat" is a big no-no; they should know this. I do like the ban on Facebook, though! As to those "awkward convos," is that a ban on coming out?

It's Texas or more accurately TexASS the giant tea party state. UT isn't quite as progressive or liberal as it is cracked up to be which makes it 100 percent like the arrogant, suburban town of Austin that totally surrounds and smothers the university campus. What do you expect from both UT and shitty, lousy Austinicon_question.gif

I'm a little confused by this. Reading through this list of rules, I'm noticing they've banned the very things frat boys are well known for doing/wearing. This leads me to believe this might have been a joke. (A stupid joke but a joke nonetheless.)

    • No athletic clothes? Really? On a college campus?
    • No sunglasses? It's fucking Texas! Who walks around Texas without sunglasses?
    • Respect the ladies? Hahaha, right. Because we all know frats respect ladies.
    • No working out? You're asking frat dudes to not workout? Right
    • No concerts? Obviously a joke.
    • No inside bathroom at the house? This alone is proof this is all a joke.

I don't know if these guys are truly racist or just really really stupid. This is the kind of joke a 12 year old might write up.

University of Texas? In AUSTIN? LOL.

There's going to be a war about this.
Austin had an anti-discrimination ordinance before Houston.

As a side issue, Texas is trying to pass a state law canceling out all city non discrimination ordinances. That includes "Austin, Dallas, San Antonio, El Paso, Fort Worth, Houston and Plano."

An interesting point, and good eyes. "No tighty whities" and "no sunglasses" Really? But the one that really made this thing suspect is "No inside bathrooms at the House".

leave it to the resident racist to say something serious like that is a joke.

hell, why would anybody be DUMB enough to even put something out there like that in the first place especially in a public university?

sounds like you're just as bad as the people that were dumb enough to write the letter talking about it's a joke. i'm quite sure you say racist shit all the time and claim you're not racist because "you're ONLY joking".

it's a difference between joking amongst yourselves or someone and doing something like this in the public domain where you're opening yourself for trouble. sometimes, you gotta wonder how these idiots got into college when they do dumb shit like this? smart enough to pass the SATs to get into college but not smart enough to realize writing something like this will get you thrown out the university?

If I'm a "racist" for using common sense, I guess I'll have to start referring to you as a pedophile. Now fuck off and die you race card slinging worthless PEDOPHILE.

You're talking about a state with a long history of bigotry. Do you think they are going to change easily?

Texas will never change, it will always be backward and intolerant. Being ignorant is a natural part of being a native Texan.

Are you all missing the part that says "pledge rules". Of course it is a ridiculous list, that the author(s) cannot spell isn't helping them.

You are such a hateful person with so much hate in his heart, whose profile says has "no tolerance for fats and fems." Do you ever peer into the human heart and soul? Have you tried to peer into your own?

It is hard to tell if this is even real given the internal inconsistencies with frat house behavior/norms (e.g., no working out, no sandals, etc.).

The fact that UT has not taken any action may mean the university is trying to determine whether the letter is real.

It would not be the first time that somebody has altered or manipulated a document and posted it online.

Yeah, haven't we already established that is likely a bogus farce, and that we can dismiss without further comment here?

No one in Texas can spell, so that proves nothing.

Says the man who used "Your" instead of "You're" a few posts above. Please stop being hypocritical, my goodness.

As Socrates once taught, the wise man is humble enough to know he doesn't know everything. Humility is entirely lacking in this thread.

I don't know if this letter is real, but for those speculating this has to be a farce because it says "no inside bathrooms at the House," that's off base.

As a graduate of this millennium, I can tell you that when you host a party, you'll often see lines. Lines for the keg, lines for the cocktail bar, lines for the DJ, lines for the bathroom.

If you own the house/apartment, or you're a significant other (i.e, you're one of a few select few "VIPs" in that house/apt), you can cut the line and say "Inside" or "House." It simply means, 'get the f out of my way, I live here, I bought this, and I take precedence.' It sounds douchey, but it's really not. There's a LOT of trouble that goes into throwing a party, especially a party with 100+ people. The host cannot be forced to wait in line, there's too much else to do (like deflecting cops who politely come by a few times every hour before they'll shut you down, taking care of people puking, and dealing with taxis in front honking and requesting their fare who isn't answering their phone anymore).

No "inside" bathrooms means you can't yell "Inside" or "House" and cut the line. This makes sense especially in a frat because almost all men have an "inside" or "house" card, and almost all women are there as a significant other (i.e., they have an 'inside' or 'house' card, for that night at least, too). If you say "inside," it means you're an insider and have connections (i.e., cut the line privileges).

    INSIDE! Move bitches!

I find the "evidence" to be offensive at a first glance, but also can see enough inconsistency with "reality" that I would be skeptical.
The disturbing part of this to me is that the group was denied their "due process". THere was no fact finding investigation or suspension, no hearing, no charges filed...nothing that would follow any type of established laws, rules or code. The university President made a knee-jerk move of a dictator, and has ordered the Fraternity to stop functioning on the campus...
Indeed the University has the power to pull the charter and not recognize the group...on a whim, but this story pushes too many "hot buttons" of race, bigotry, immigration, etc....and has a University President issuing a "death penalty" for the Fraternity, not based on investigations of fact, but on questionable items found in social media.....

If the investigation and facts were to corroborate and verify this as an actual practice of this or any greek or other campus organization....by all means CLOSE them down and prosecute any violations.....but this is not passing the "smell test" .....there is more to this story that hasn't been told.

hard to tell if this is real or not :/

these are also "pledge rules" . in other words, all the shit pledges (apparently) can't do until they're a member.

And, as already mentioned, clearly these guys cannot spell.
