    Well this isnt that simple.
The gym has A NO judgement policy based on what each member has stated...meaning male or female.
The woman who complained says that he had male parts which means a penis or testicles. I can see why she feels uncomfortable with the whole thing..it is an awkward situation. In my opinion it would have been ok if the said person had changed their sex because that makes him now a woman .seeing a half man half woman naked in the locker room is kind of weird. BUT the law says you need to keep a straight face at all times.
The transgender person looks like art deco in drag!!!!

LOL... pretty sure that Miss Thing that complained about the "man" in the dressing room was more shocked by the offenders daily attire than anything else.
Those 2 could clearly never be girlfriends!

HAHAHA! WHat I find disturbing though is the fact that if you even disagree with or try to explain both sides to this story you might be labelled a hypocrite or a homophobe...

This article is saturated in bias. All the buzzwords are there. She obviously felt violated. It's starting to come to women's rights vs. trans rights, which isn't right at all. I bet she wouldn't have joined that gym if they had told her men were allowed in the ladies' room. Gyms conveniently leave out LOTS of things at sign up, so I can understand her frustration.

The 'no judgment' policy also seems a bit quick to judge people as transphobes. Just because a woman doesn't want to share a locker room with a man (or "a person that has a penis" for those that like to play word games) doesn't mean she's judging anyone.

That's a very hard subject to crack... I think that the lady complaining should just switch gyms if this bothered her so much because well, if Planet Fitness' policy is not to judge, then I don't see these rules changing at all. But yeah, I don't really know how to respond to this lol. I mean, to me it shouldn't be a big deal because the man identifies as a woman now so there shouldn't be any problem. But I understand this can be uncomfortable for others. It makes me wonder what it would have been like if he used the mens changing room.

If you have a dick, use the men's locker room. It's really that simple. It's not about you (trannies) it's about the norm for toilet/changing room usage. If you want to use the women's locked room do it after your penis is transformed into a vagina.

Despite what he/she may believe, the dangly bits between his legs belies that notion and is what all the other ladies in the locker room have to see. Therefore, until his body matches his mental perception of himself, he should use the men's locker room.

..because of course the straight guys will be fine with a woman in their changing rooms stripping and showing them a penis. It won't surprise them or bother them at all. icon_lol.gif

It is probably time for their to a 3rd bathroom in public facilities like schools etc. for trans gender. I have seen just about everything at this point in life, but even I would feel uncomfortable being around naked transgender people that had sex organs of both genders (or of just the female gender).

It is becoming a problem in California, where there are a growing number of trans kids. Why should little kids in school have to see them naked - even if they only have a one set of genital, but it is the wrong one for who they are dressing as?

Additional bathrooms and showers can't cost all that much.

∆ This. Nobody cares what you feel like "on the inside." Any pervert can say he feels like a woman on the inside just to gawk at naked ladies in the shower. Enough is enough. Got a dick? Fine, use the MEN'S ROOM.....(ya know....cause men have dicks.) Either that or require them to use the handicap toilet.

Unless this transwoman was sexually harassing this other woman or doing anything predatory, she has no grounds to be complaining. You see that she has male genitalia? Sorry but that's her business, not your own.

As far as there being a 3rd washroom/change room, I'm a fan of the South Park approach. The 3rd washroom or change room should be set aside for the people who have a problem with sharing a space with someone who is trans.

Saying a trans-person should not use the changing room of the gender he or she identifies is like saying gay men shouldn't be allowed to be in the changing room with straight men or lesbians in with straight women. Get a grip.

Nowhere does it say she saw a penis or any male parts.

“I wanted to know why there was a man in the women’s locker room. He looked like a man, and that’s what stopped me in my tracks.”

Unsatisfied with this reply, Cournier took it upon herself to return to the gym the next week and for three days in a row go up to as many women gym members as she could find and said, “[J]ust so you know, there’s a man they allow in this locker room and they don’t tell you that when you sign up.” It was for this behavior, and not her original complaint, that Cournier’s membership was revoked.
(I think the gym was within their right to terminate her for her essentially vigilante approach.)

"If you have male parts ("IF" she said, not mentioning if she saw them) you don't need to be in the women's locker room. I don't care what you are; I don't care if you're gay lesbian, transgender or transvestite. I am uncomfortable with you as a male in my locker room, in my restroom."

If Bea Arthur (when alive) had been there, her actual sex wouldn't be questioned. It would have rightly been illegal, same for any "manly" or seemingly unattractive women.

I think every gym should have a private bathroom, for transgender, the terminally shy, or for any other personal reasons.

I don't disagree with Ms. Cournier about her level of comfort. But the threat from a transgender is misplaced.

    Speaking of which...

Florida Law Would Make It A Crime For Transgender People To Use Public Bathrooms

And it just passed another hurdle in the Florida State Legislature, looks likely to pass. One problem is that it would seem to also limit transsexuals to the restroom & locker room of their birth gender, as well. Another brilliant idea brought to you the Republican Party brain trust in our State Capitol. Who have nothing better to do than obsess about what's between our legs, and how we use it. icon_rolleyes.gif

This not as easy as it sounds, I know this because in my gym "Bally's", there use to be a tran person changing in men's locker room,"he" was still not operated down there but had "breast", and looked petie like a woman and had long hair, and somebody from men's room complained about "him", and now "he" goes to woman's looker room to change. And I guess women are fine in my gym (I guess), because he just happens to look more girly.Weired!!!

The point is she's putting a lot of emphasis on the transwoman's appearance. That is her problem with allowing her to change with other woman. You really can't change much about yourself if you are masculine looking, especially if you transition well after puberty. There are certain procedures you can do to feminize your body, but each one of those procedures, including top and bottom surgery is expensive. And why should you put yourself through a risky procedure with surgery just to make people like this woman happy?

Yeah, I suppose but I'm still not sure. I do agree that there should be a third changing room/restroom set aside for transgender people since this is still a heated thing in America (well most places). But if they do this, at least the trans people would have their own changing/bathroom where they can do their business. Like I said, I personally don't care but if it makes issues like this go away, what's the harm?

And also, the transgender person can get used to their changes (if she/he is going through transition) and as soon as they are finished and feel comfortable enough, they can use the proper rooms they identify with.
