abc NewsHironimus and the boy’s father, Dennis Nebus, were never married but share custody of their child. In a parenting agreement filed in court, the two agreed to the boy’s circumcision, but the mother later changed her mind, leading to a long court battle. Circuit and appellate judges have sided with the father, but potential surgeons have backed out after refusing to get the mother’s consent or becoming the target of anti-circumcision protesters who side with her.

Can you imagine a situation where a judge would enforce a "parenting agreement" demanding a young girl to undergo genital mutilation in America? Yea me neither, because it would be unacceptable and barbaric.

Read more on the benefits of this backwards practice here:

Your basic assumption that circumcision = "genital 'mutilation'" is a false one, which brings everything else based on that silly, sensational headline down as well. There are many valid and medically sound reasons why the practice has persisted for millennia, and none of the new psychobabble or ignorant pseudo-medical testi-phony negates it. OTOH, I think the women have finally disabused themselves of their penis envy, which may explain why their lips are sealed on this subject.

Whatever those reasons are, most countries that have already left the stone age seem to ignore them.

Perhaps you could supply a legend for your map, but no more myths, please. And, numbers alone do not wisdom make; size does not matter.

The map shows prevalence of circumcision by country. Pretty self explanatory.

This story is absolutely fascinating in the USA today. I see a movie deal at the end of its conclusion, whatever that may be. The judge is obviously just upholding the parents original agreement. They were never married but each could sue the other for a giant full custody battle. And we already know, during a child custody battle, where both parents are found capable of "best interest", the court system(s) usually side with the mother and will give father visitation rights. But in this case, the mother ditched and went AWOL!. Now it does not look good for the mother in the courts eyes, she's a flight risk due to panic.

At this point, the boy, 4 years old, probably is still to young to understand what his parents are fighting over. There is no point in asking a 4 year old about circumcision when he wouldn't understand anyway, so the boys opinion of himself, cut or uncut, would not hold up in court if his mother forced her own child to take the stand in his own defense. All she could do is scare the crap out of him with nasty, bloody pictures of the procedures which would probably be harmful to a 4 year old kid, he could have nightmares. In which case, I would charge the mother with abuse. Some people are so dam selfish to put there own needs first before there child's.

I'll be watching to see how this story ends, I would def see the movie if someone writes and directs it. A movie deal would also propel the circumcision issue and argument to the forefront of peoples minds. The movie should touch on the damaging effect of the religious aspect because this is where the whole idea of (male) circumcision is rooted in the first place. If boys are made this way from birth, why are we changing that? In a similar argument, the USA is about the only country that does not use the metric system icon_idea.gif
