Oregon Governor Signs Sweeping Automatic Voter Registration Into Law

"Sweeping first-in-the nation legislation making voter registration automatic in Oregon was signed into law on Monday by Governor Kate Brown, potentially adding 300,000 new voters to state rolls.

The so-called Motor Voter legislation will use state Department of Motor Vehicles data to automatically register eligible voters whose information is contained in the DMV system, with a 21-day opt-out period for those who wish to be taken off the registry.

Supporters say the legislation's goal is to keep young voters, students and working families who move often from losing their right to vote. Republican lawmakers, who unanimously voted against the bill, complain it puts Oregonians' privacy at risk."

Although neither of the links provided went into much detail, I don't think I'd have a problem with this as long as the accuracy of the CITIZENS' data can be verified and checked against other data to cull duplicates, decedents, and double-registrants. It's in places like CA, where illegal aliens are given drivers licenses, where a greater potential for voter fraud exists. Even though such CA licenses aren't supposed to be used for anything other than driving and insurance purposes, the reality is, given our permissive AG and law enforcement officials in illegal-heavy areas, that they're bound to be used for other things, much like welfare benefits are obtained by illegals despite "official" prohibition against granting them. Add to that the push for allowing illegals to vote regardless of their unlawful presence here, as SF's Bd. of Supes has been advocating for decades, and you've got all the ingredients for massive voter fraud.

MGINSD said..... and you've got all the ingredients for massive voter fraud.

I added emphasis for the most important part of MGINSD's words.

As a poll worker from 1986 to 2002 I was always surprised by the small number, almost none, of suspected voter fraud cases that were encountered.

However, as the United States changes with the mainstreaming of over 16 million illegal immigrants precautions to avoid any potential widespread voter fraud are pure common sense.

In the US and many other 1st world nations voting is restricted to citizens. Some nations in the EU restrict voting rights to residents of a nation who come only from other EU nations. (try getting something that overtly discriminatory past SCOTUS)

ID is required for everything from opening a bank account to hospital admissions to air travel to enrolling in college. Producing ID at polling places would eliminate all suspicions of voter fraud.

Automatic voter registration sought in California

Every eligible Californian would be automatically registered to vote under legislation Secretary of State Alex Padilla is exploring.
