This is probably a good idea since things seem to be going from bad to worse

Current governor of Illinois is Republican Bruce Rauner, so replacement appointment will most likely be a Republican. Balance of power will likely remain the same.

Admitted. But that's short-game. Long-game we just knocked out an up-and-coming "star" of the GOP that had the looks, charisma and "it" factor to mount a future challenge to the Dems. He was a younger Romney.

    Threat neutralized.

Speaking of Romney, Mitt is going to fight Evander Holyfield in May for charity. If he had been elected we could have done away with wars and he could have just had fist fights with Putin and Kim Jong Un on the White House lawn.

Romney will probably send in his butler at the last minute but it would be fun to see his ear bitten off.

Do Governors in most States fill vacancies in the US House? Representatives are elected to represent a single District, not the entire State.

Where State Constitutions give appointment authority to the Governor to fill Congressional vacancies, isn't it only for US Senators, who represent the entire State? Otherwise isn't a special election required?

    From the National Archives http://www.archives.gov/exhibits/charters/constitution_transcript.html:
When vacancies happen in the Representation from any State, the Executive Authority thereof shall issue Writs of Election to fill such Vacancies.

    From that same link:

...and if Vacancies happen by Resignation, or otherwise, during the Recess of the Legislature of any State, the Executive thereof may make temporary Appointments until the next Meeting of the Legislature, which shall then fill such Vacancies.

But the US Constitution also states: "When vacancies happen in the Representation from any State, the Executive Authority thereof shall issue Writs of Election to fill such Vacancies." -- Article I, Section 2, Clause 4 of the U.S. Constitution

As a specific example in Illinois, here's a report of election results from March, 2008, which bears similarities. The site is managed by the US State Dept, primarily to provide information for an international audience. I might point out that George Bush was in the White House at this time.

Voters in parts of Illinois March 8 and parts of Indiana March 11 also held elections -- but not for presidential nominees. They held special elections to select congressional representatives.

Special elections often are held to fill vacated elective positions, usually because a leader has retired or died. Each state has its own laws guiding how special elections are conducted and when they must be held.

In Illinois' 14th Congressional District, Democrat Bill Foster won a seat that had been held by former Republican House Speaker Dennis Hastert. ...Hastert resigned in November 2007.

The cynical me has created my own conspiracy theory. How does this sound:

Republican congressional leaders knew/learned that Aaron Schock is gay. Rather than deal with the embarrassment of gay homophobic hypocrisy criticisms (all of his votes are party-line anti-gay), suggested/manufactured "expense" improprieties to provide "cover" to his resignation. "We're not anti-gay! We're pro-accounting!"

When the sack of shit bon_salieri stops lying about me, stops harrassing me, referencing me, addressing me, etc., so will stop my postings about him into threads where he has posted, warnings to anyone unsuspecting the truth about him as shown in screenshots of his own words. If he stops, I’ll stop. It is that simple..
