The South Carolina woman’s change of stance on same-sex marriage ocurred after she...started going to church...

...During an interview with World, a Christian publication, Heather Barwick said, “It really wasn’t until I came to Christ that I felt that burden lifted off of me

    C. She can go fuck herself

    D. To me, all this shows is how perverting religion can be, that it's turned a child against her own parents.

And of course we've already seen this sort of thing as so many times it has turns parents against their gay children. And now that we are having families we see how pervasive is their perversion that they would destroy families like that.

This happens to str8 families too. A very dear friend of mine got fucked by religion when her sister became a born again fundamentalist. They're Jewish! The pain this has caused that family? Those bastards who turned her could never repay.

    E. Religion can go fuck itself.

Some kids do have a primordial need to have a parent of one gender or another. This can be a challenge for gay parenting. But it is also a challenge for divorced parents, widowed parents, single parents, parent's whose co-parent has abandoned the family, geographic separation of one parent, absence of both parents, and so forth. Yet there are not laws against these other practices.

There are four disturbed young adults who have been publicly thrust forward by the right-wingers lately, each raised by same-sex parents and each has become virulently anti-equality. This is supposed to be proof of something---the right-wing actually thinks they constitute some sort of "game changer"---but in truth it's just four sad people playing out their dysfunctional and pitiful lives for laughs. I feel sorry---not for them, but for the parents they're disgracing.

Similar for families where the dad worked about 80 hours a week to support the family or traveled a bunch for the job. It used to be that the dad did whatever was required to financially support the family and the vast majority of moms were stay at home moms so one was raised primarily by their mom. Lots of combinations of families that work it out fine and others that don't.

If anything her argument suggests she should be coming out against hetero marriage. It was the hetero dad who abandoned her. I bet her two moms are still loving her and trying to get her out of that cult (sorry, church).

I read her article and found it to be honest, empathetic and intriguing. I also found her to be very confused right now and trying to figure things out. She said that seeing 2 women interact with each other really caused her to miss out on male/female interaction and she's struggling with how she should identify with her husband. This is a fair point. BUT what if she had opposite sex parents who fought all the time... would she then gain any insight on how to relate to her husband then? What about if her mom or dad died and she just had 1 parent? Would she be anti single parent rights? She'd have the same issues then too would she not?

And what about kids with no parents? Wouldn"t they really rather be in a loving home versus no home?

Wait a minute, not all religion is hateful and negative. This young lady unfortunately befriended some flaky fundamentalists and their extreme right wing brand of religion is what caused all these problems. This young lady is now totally lost thanks to these narrow minded bible thumping screwballs.

Come on man, don't get too hard on her. She was brainwashed by flaky fundamentalists. This lady is now totally lost in life. A very horrible situation indeed.

In the US as of 2013 40% of all children were born to unmarried people. 15 million kids were in single parent households, 5 million of them with just a Dad, 10 million with just a Mom.

Education would likely help her, and the asking of why she's singling out gays when there is so much dysfunction in this regard in straight society.

Poor child is such a confused adult. She's not against same-sex marriage. She's truly against absentee fathers.

If a same-sex couple has a child through surrogacy, that child will only know two same-sex parents. Same if that same-sex couple adopts an infant. Unlike Ms. Barwick who, though young, knew she had a father who suddenly disappeared from the scene. Two very different circumstances.

Now, it could lead to difficulties for a child a bit older to be adopted into a same-sex union.

Exactly. Some kids with servicemen or women as parents don't get to see their deployed parent for almost a year. I'm sure the christian right doesn't have a problem with that.

Sounds like some classic mind-twisting there...

She's got Daddy Issues, wrapped up in abandonment issues... and her new "church" has taught her to turn her anger, fear, and hate against the people that stood by and raised her.

    So very sad.
