Hello, my name is Nick and i'm a senior at Texas State studying business finance and business management. I am writing a paper for an elective about the role of school counselors in child development (Even though it has nothing to do with my field), and the point of my research paper is that one of the primary functions of school counselors is to attract parents to be partners with the school for their children's academic success. Anyway I am writing a section on children with gay and lesbian parents.Their have been some studies that have calculated data that support that children who are currently being raised by lesbian and gay parents under perform academically. I just ran into this study searching Google scholar suggesting that this is caused by family transitions not necessarily gay and lesbian parents. The source is stated below please let me know what you guys think. Thanks

The results indicated that children in same-sex parent families scored lower than their peers in married, 2-biological parent households, but the difference was nonsignificant net of family transitions.

Moreover, prior research has shown that the mere change in family structure largely accounted for the disparities in children's outcomes, whereas the type of change that children experienced was of secondary importance (Fomby & Cherlin, 2007); that is, the primary reason that children from nontraditional families had lower academic achievement compared with children in traditional families was because of the instability and disruption that occurred prior to and during the formation of their nontraditional family

    just fyi:
the study from Texas at Austin associate sociology professor Mark Regnerus was discredited. It was funded to the tune of nearly $1,000,000 by the anti gay Witherspoon Institute and Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation.

    the sample size was tiny:
    163 lesbian mothers & 73 gay fathers

just thinking a mega dollar could buy a bigger sample size than 300 families.
