As you probably gathered from the title, I am heading off on my first cruise next week and wanted some advice from the guys on RJ.

We will be leaving from PR and stopping at:
    St. Thomas
    St. Kitts
    St. Lucia
    St. Martin
    Barbados

Is there anything you wish you would have know before departing for your first cruise? Any advice no matter how small would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Probably too late now if you're doing this, but one thing I learned is don't go by yourself.

The land tour packages they sell you on the boat will cost about double for the same thing you can arrange once you're in port. It may not be the same tour provider, but it will be the same tour for much less money. However, make sure they know which boat you're on and when it's leaving port (there may be several cruise ships docked at the same time) because when it's time to go, the ship WILL leave without you.

St Thomas is lovely. Enjoy but keep your wits about you. Very high crime rate. If there's a day trip to St. John do that: way beautiful.

St. Kitts (& Nevis if there's a side trip) is gay unfriendly. (plus a friend's mother was murdered there so I'm not real into st kitts). Spend no money on them.

St. Lucia is also gay-illegal but also very beautiful so limit your spending there.

St. Martin? Have fun. Go crazy.

Limit spending also on Barbados. That's a real shame because it's a great place for expats to live were they not such douchebags.

Have a wonderful time in the turquoise waters and azure skies of the isles of homophobia.

That's intersting because everything I've read so far seem to support the islands as gay friendly. Either way I'm sure we will have a good time. Thanks for the information

Well, I doubt as a tourist you'd notice. They probably won't come to your cabin to arrest you for having sex but just to be aware of how you act in public. USVI is under US Federal law but even there is a engrained Christian culture maybe even more so than stateside. St. Martin would not be an issue at all.

And then as far as spending goes, certainly enjoy all the islands but if you've budget decisions on spending more in one place than the other, then, me, personally, I'd support more those who support us.

Don't miss any opportunity to go snorkeling in any of the locations though. I understand there's been a lot of reef loss but even if there's still half left of what once was, it would be pretty beautiful. Have a great time. Send the Virgins my love.
