I question the intelligence of the author of that article.

"... with a diameter estimated at up to 1,000 km (620 miles), it is the sort of thing that could do serious damage if it did collide with Earth. Asteroids this size wouldn't cause a global catastrophe on the scale of the dinosaur-killer ..."

Uhh, the dinosaur-killer asteroid is estimated to have been 6 miles in diameter. I think the author is a nutjob. icon_lol.gif

Oh come on. Math isn't required for Journalism majors. And 99% of the readers won't know the difference anyway.

Yesterday, there was a story about the "discovery of nitrogen on Mars" (by which they meant nitrate salts.) The article went on to explain that "on Earth, most nitrogen is found as nitrogen dioxide gas..." icon_eek.gif Well, hopefully not yet!

    Apparently intelligence isn't, either. icon_lol.gif

Of course not. When I dealt with the press, there were about four or five science journalists in the entire country who knew their shit. The rest was pure noise. You couldn't explain to them what was "new" about a discovery, because they didn't know shit to begin with.
