"Even among Republicans, 71 percent said marriage equality had either no impact or a positive impact on their lives, ..."

I guess that means the other 29% are still in the closet. icon_lol.gif

It means that many republicans are much more open minded and accepting than they are perceived. It is only the narrow minded bible thumping screwballs that remain fiercely opposed to marital equality.

Probably true, but it is "the narrow minded bible thumping screwballs" who currently have control of the party.

Exactly right. And by supporting them and voting for them, the 71% are saying they are willing to allow suppression of a minority because it is less important than other things. That is the depth of their "values." That is also how Hitler got elected.

But it doesn't have to affect them for them to oppose it actively. What's it's actually about is their imposing their beliefs onto others. From experience, our Founding Fathers were well aware of the dangers of that which is why they favored strict separation of church and state. Unfortunately, many people have never learned that lesson.

Church membership and attendance are higher here in the U.S. than in most other prosperous countries. Probably that is because of the separation of church and state. When the two become too closely intertwined, it is to the detriment of both.

The problem is that no one believes that the "gays" aren't out to destroy faith based churches etc. If gays told the political parties there must be a exception for churches who dont want to marry gays. They would probably get 100% acceptance. But no one has seen it. The same goes for Cake markers, i believe in conscious. People should be given reasonable leeway to not accept customers. If i went to black owned sign store, and asked for KKK signs , should he has the right to say no ? Should muslims be forced to cut womans hair ? What happens when gays need to use their conscious, and have eliminated for themselves ? "they came for me "

Well said, sir. We have never harmed or threatened religious people in any way and for centuries, they have struck us as hard as they could. As far as I'm concerned, religion can fondle their snakes anyway they please. But when they try to use the power of government to carve out their special right to use them on me, I will fight back and oppose a sworn enemy. It is their call to arms, not mine.

First of all it should be noted how the Republicans lied on the polling. Of course our marriages have affected them. We've brought receptions up a notch from the chicken dance.

    Hetero chicken dance

    Gay chicken dance

As to all that "i believe in conscious" and that "gays need to use their conscious", perhaps the word you are looking for is conscience.

Being a bigot is not a natural aspect of a person's being; rather, it is learned behavior. Babies are not born bigoted. And so a bigot trying to force a black shopkeeper to print a KKK sign is not merely a person doing day-to-day business but is a person using business to inflict their bigotry upon the business owner.

That's very different than a black person going into a bigot's sign store and being refused service because of his born skin color. Being black is not learned behavior; it is a born attribute. Same thing with being gay.

And even when a learned aspect of what a person incorporates into their life is not used specifically and at the time to harm others, then we don't discriminate against them either. So while it would be okay for a gay bakery to refuse to print hate speech, it would be wrong for a gay bakery to refuse baking a cake for a born again wedding. We would have to cater to love even of those we don't like. We do not have to cater to hate.

So i see you have missed the point completely. The points i have made come from friends of a conservative side. They dont believe gays and the left care about religious liberty, see Obama and the nuns. So why would they even entertain another position, they view as a threat. So basically its not a matter of policy for you. Its a matter of compliance with your beliefs.

This poll quantifies what everyone already knows: the Republican campaign against marriage equality is a complete LIE.
Of course it does not affect them in any significant way -- they always knew that it wouldn't. The reason Republicans oppose marriage equality is actually much simpler: they hate gay people.
Republicans hate anything that might make gay people happier or bring joy to their lives.
The GOP is losing young people because they have seen through these lies, and now see the Republican party for the sad shell that it has become: a rapidly shrinking party of old bigots who are deeply embittered about a modern world that rejects their hatred.

I am pretty sure conservative republicans have no actual opinions, they are opportunists. Their goal is to get power, maintain power, and similarly money. At the same time they minimize scrutiny. The fastest way to do that is jump on a religious theme (abortion, gays, etc) with a built in fan club of people who are not big on facts, and just keep saying you will allow or disallow that theme for them. It means you dont ever have to talk about any ACTUAL problems )like unemployment, immigration, seniors upcoming crash of finances, healthcare, the one percent raping the world, etc.

just every few weeks you just shake the tree and shout GAYS, or ABORTION, and a few JEEBUSes and you can get your 30% of people who only vote for that, and pick up a few low tax policy voters from the upper class and boom in a two party system you get to keep your downton abbey office even though you are a flaming homo. You just have to kiss the right asses in the executive and you can keep the charade up until the lobbiests offer you more money than you have playing house republican.
