White Fragility

Not exactly gay related, but it'll be redirected anyway.

Read Robin DiAngelo's paper on "white fragility" and a lot of it struck true. Wondering if anyone else has heard about this concept. Basically, it is the inability of white people to objectively tackle race issues without experiencing stress, anxiety, and anger. The author claims "white fragility" is the result of white privilege being challenged.

This happens, according to the author, in the following cases:

•Suggesting that a white person’s viewpoint comes from a racialized frame of reference (challenge to objectivity)
•People of color talking directly about their racial perspectives (challenge to white racial codes)
•People of color choosing not to protect the racial feelings of white people in regards to race (challenge to white racial expectations and need/en-titlement to racial comfort)
•People of color not being willing to tell their stories or answer questions about their racial experiences (challenge to colonialist relations)
    • A fellow white not providing agreement with one’s interpretations (challenge to white solidarity)
•Receiving feedback that one’s behavior had a racist impact (challenge to white liberalism)
•Suggesting that group membership is signicant (challenge to individualism)
•An acknowledgment that access is unequal between racial groups (challenge to meritocracy)
•Being presented with a person of color in a position of leadership (challenge to white authority)
•Being presented with information about other racial groups through, for example, movies in which people of color drive the action but are not in stereotypical roles, or multicultural education (challenge to white cen-trality).

You know what grinds my gears?

Is that many times, in the case of this instance posted by the OP, people of color ONLY translates to blacks. If you were to do an entirely different report this time focusing on Latinos, Asians, and those of mixed race, you will find that our opinions don't always line up with African Americans.

One example I found recently was during the whole Ferguson/Trayvon Martin ordeal. I was arguing with a black woman saying that as a person of color, I should automatically side with blacks since we supposedly share a common struggle. I was more offended that she would even suggest that, not caring about the facts of the case but instead only about skin color. Many of my friends are also Latino and most agreed that the police officer was in the right.

    Just my 2 cents...

Did you even read the paper? No, people of color covers all "minorities" - blacks, Asians, Indians, and Latinos - even those who try to assimilate and pass as white. (No shade)

Asians are a model minority who wish they were white (but never ever will be) as well as some latinos. Of course they way they view things is going to be different from blacks who rebel, rebel, rebel and have been seen as the total anti-thesis to whites since the very beginning.

You thought George Zimmerman was "in the right"? icon_eek.gif What exactly is your logic behind that?

Don't want to dredge up an old topic, but really though, explain that.

Only this is an actual legitimate topic on a reputable concept. Not, "whaa whaa why can't I get white cock?!"

    EDIT: And it's umpteenth.

Yes, asshole. And what I said still stands. I know many times the media, mainly black media, tries to create some kind of alliance between all minorities but that simply is not the case.

Rich, coming from the biggest douche on this board. And the black media if anything focuses on black issues to the exclusion of Asians (sometimes they focus on Latinos).

Anyway, we all know Latinos HATE blacks, they are most outright racist people in this country, but I laugh because they will never be considered white by their oh so beloved masters.

And you're true colors are finally out!

Thanks for proving my point about Latinos being despicable racists, despite being minorities themselves.

You will be never be white. Seethe. You may get railed by white cock every night, but you will always be inferior.

And I look way better than you. Nice try though.

You have already labeled yourself as RJ's resident race baiter.

From saying all Asians want to be white to labeling all Latinos as racist, you are the reason why race relations in this country is so backwards.

And if we were in a Metropolitan Zoo beauty pageant, yes you would win. But I can assure you I am better looking as a human than you will ever be.

Real funny. So you think blacks are animals? You are the epitome of a racist, then. Congratulations!

You are such an IDIOT it's unfathomable. You think I am the reason - one person, posting one topic on a forum for gay jocks - is the reason why race relations are so fucked up in this country? Wow.

I'm quite bored of you already. You have nothing to offer as a human, and nothing but contempt for others to spout. You obviously don't want to discuss race, and I obviously hit a nerve. Let's agree to go back to ignoring each other.

    Thanks, bye!

I would gladly discuss race with you if you would stop making sweeping generalizations about Asians and Latinos and then claiming to be coming from a neutral objective point of you. You aren't. Stop acting so coy.

You already have engrained in that little peabody brain of yours a set of beliefs that won't change. You didn't come here to discuss the merits of that article. You came here to race bait and stereotype Latinos and Asians. Just admit it.

God, you are stupid. You are the one that brought up Latinos and Asians complaining that POC applies to blacks to the exclusion of others. I merely cited my opinion, backed up by social science, no less. Read up on assimilation, racist love, and the model minority.

This is the last you will hear from me, as I don't fraternize with racists.

You brought up Asians and Latinos and mentioned that they don't have the same viewpoints as blacks, right? And I merely mentioned WHY they have these different viewpoints. Meaning your theory that I purposely started this thread to talk shit about Latinos and Asians is NULL AND VOID.

...and the reasons you mentioned were completely racist and bullshit! Don't you get that?

Saying all Latinos are racist and all Asians just wish to be white is not a valid answer.

Where's your proof? Any sources? You keep talking how this is academic fact and accepted among all yet you cite no single report.

Show me the "All Latinos Are Racist" article or the investigation into the "All Asians Want To Be White" and maybe, just MAYBE I will listen to you.

    Till then, keep eating shit.

Don't act like there isn't a color divide in every Latin American country. You know damn well you are acting oblivious. And you know very well how eager many Latinos are to identify as "white" and distance themselves from mestizos and Afro Latinos.

Why are you so acting so clueless? You mean to tell me you've never heard of the "model minority"?
