Boyfriend and I are planning on a taking a two week trip but have no idea where. He's not keen on beach destinations. Where have you been, would you go back?

    So far we have:
    -Iceland/Scandinavia
    - Italy/Turkey/Greece
    - South America (his exception to hot..)

I did a cruise in the Baltic Sea; in my opinion a cruise is traveling for pussies but there are advantages and I plan to do more of them.

I definitely liked the Scandinavian/Nordic countries. I have several friends who've been to Iceland and I don't understand the attraction; my theory is that it's due to good marketing by Iceland's tourist bureau. From what I've seen it's rocks and icebergs. (One of my favorite mystery writers is Arnaldur Indriðason who's Icelandic and his stories are all based there.)

A future cruise will be one in the Mediterranean so your Italy, Turkey, and Greece item also sounds good.

Scadinavia is expensive, and much low on my list of destinations in comparison to mediterranean(Italy/Turkey/Greece) countries. If you've not been to these mediterranean countries, then I would strongly advice to go there. They provide you different kind of options without being too expensive. Even witout going to the beach, there is too much history, culture and food for you in these countries. So I would vote for Italy/Greece/Turkey. South America also sounds good.

    East Africa.
    Specifically Tanzania and Kenya.
Go to Masaai Mara for 3 or 4 days. Spend 5 or 6 days climbing Mt Kilimanjaro. Then finish in Zanzibar for relaxation.

Yes, being gay is technically illegal there but they won't go after tourists. PDA between hetero couples (even holding hands) is socially unacceptable. I wouldn't make out with your man in public. Otherwise you'll be fine.

You could roam around France and Germany in a rental car. Off season the rates aren't that high and rooms are available. You have to be into architecture or history or food. You can still dip your toe into clubs in the cities if you want some night life.

There is far more to Australia than just beaches!! I'm Australian and most certainly not interested in beaches. It's a hella long flight though.

    New Zealand.

An amazing variety of scenery (in case you haven't seen Lord of the Rings) and all kinds of active and outdoorsy things to do.

Friendly people who speak your language (sorta).

And it's relatively inexpensive, once you get there.

+1 for New Zealand, the south island in particular, very easy to drive around and fantastic people. Been there many times!

I have been to Saba - a large picturesque rock but the only thing to do there is scuba dive so not good destination for guys not in to beach or hot weather!

Of OP's list, the Med option would definitely offer the most to enjoy for a reasonable cost although the Baltic/Scandinavian countries are great too.

I visited Rome and Vatican city. Italy is a beautiful country. Greece is close by, you guys can always see the Acropolis or go Islands Hopping in Santorini. For South America, try Rio in Brasil or Buenos Aires in Argentina?? I'm leaning toward Southern Italy and Islands hopping in Greece. Bel Ami did 2 video diary series on Greece (Greek Holiday 1 Cruising the Aegean sea and 2 Cruising Mykonos, omg, the hot tall tan men)) icon_redface.gificon_redface.gif

DK when you're going, but since beaches and heat are out, try for something temperate, like the British Isles, Benelux, France, Italy & Spain. Since you're in CDN, anywhere in the US would be convenient; perhaps our Western National Parks? Or you could go for the long haul to AUS, CHN, or IND, or anywhere in between. Safe travels wherever you go!

Prague is one of my very favorite cities. I don't know how much exploring there is to do; I did some, but I was there performing with my singing group so much of our time was spent rehearsing and giving concerts. Didn't leave a lot of room for just wandering, although we did manage one day totally free and I went with friends to a couple of really terrific jazz clubs. They're crazy for jazz in Prague.

I'd definitely recommend you south america. You can start from argentine then going down to patagoina and then chile.
If ur looking for more adventure, go to peru and do the inka rail.
If u wanna try europe, u can do the italy-greece-turkey but try to add spain into it, at least barcelona.
If u wanna try sth diferent i can also recommend u guys Cape town, its quite beautiful and the seafood is the best!
Orr, if ur looking for a more exotic place, japan is soo beautiful! Especially Kyoto and Nara. So specracular, so unique and different, soo peacefull and just amazing.

When do you want to go? Now?

If you want to get away from it all - rural Norway, Sweden and Finland are great - expensive - but not as much as in the cities. Never been to Iceland - but it is rather bleak compared to the others.

Italy and France are also wonderful - although Italy in the summer would be too hot for me. I could spend a month in either Paris or Italy (just not in the summer.) Avoid Paris in August, the locals mostly go away for vacation.

A long way, but South Africa (Cape Town) is great, and not cold, even though our summer is their winter. There are game parks in the much warmer north.

I would second New Zealand and Australia - especially during their spring.

Ireland is great in the summer, although crowded with tourists.

I couldn't be with someone who didn't love the beach.

You should make him take a trip to Uranus!!icon_idea.gif
