How much are you supposed to tip on a $24 haircut?
I never know how much is too much or not enough.
and how much do you tip?

If they're good then I gave them about 50% of the price of the haircut. You don't want them doing a half-assed job if the place is busy, it's close to closing time, etc.

Now I just buzz my hair short with Wahl hair clippers. Convenient; no need to worry about the barbershop being busy or closed.

I get a $24 haircut and just round it up to $30. But then it usually only takes about 20-25 minutes to cut. I don't go through all the wash and other stuff. I just schedule it so I can go to the gym after and I shower after my workout.

mine was about the same- 20-27 minutes. I timed it to make sure.
I accidentally only tipped him $3 then went back in as soon as I realized- and tipped an extra $5...so $8 total- not sure if that was enough, or too much. Just right?
I'm too embarrassed to go back now, even though the guy did an acceptable job.

No need to feel embarrassed. That was enough. If you turn into a regular, $8 on $24 is fine. I also add a 100% tip the last haircut before Christmas.

An acceptable tip across industries for service that you appreciated is 20%. So on a $24 haircut, you can tip about $5 (rounding up to $30). My haircut at the local barber costs $15 and I give him a $20 each time.

    $18.00 Haircut
    $ 4.00 Tip

    I wouldn't tip just anybody.
This guy does a great job, and he's been cutting my hair for a long time.

I tip $5 on a $20 haircut, which is 25%. The owner goes a great job. First time in decades I'm going to a barber again, previously was cutting my own hair.

But the owner hosted some fundraisers for us, so I felt obligated to throw him some business. I was so impressed with his work, and I got so many spontaneous compliments, astonishing me, that I use him regularly now.

I still cut my husband's hair, though. Very simple, he has male pattern baldness on top, I just use electric clippers on the sides, all the same short length.

I use Wahl clippers made in the US, bought them just for him, and the haircut savings have already paid for them. Plus I can give him a haircut quickly at home, anytime we're going somewhere he wants to look his best, no concern about making appointments.

But when I go for my haircut, he goes along with me for a manicure. So the shop still gets business from both of us. In fact, I think we may both go this Saturday (in 2 days), prior to a private dinner party we're attending that evening.

I give my guy $20 for a $13 haircut so it's a little over 50%. He does a fantastic job and over the years we've become good friends. We give each other a Christmas gift as well. icon_cool.gif

I tip my guy 20%. He does a great job. I've gotten many compliments on my hair cuts over the years and refer both men and women to him. A good stylist is worth his weight in gold. I have such confidence in him I just sit in the chair and tell him to do what he's inspired to do.

Yeah, I don't have to tell my barber anything. We discussed and fine-tuned my haircut the first few visits, but after that it's now routine & wordless, aside from small talk.

He likes to be called a barber, BTW, not a stylist. He's a 3rd-generation barber, originally from NYC. Only cuts men's hair.

I don't tip for a haircut. It costs enough already.

What else do Americans tip? I've never heard of anyone tip hairdressers in the UK @.@
