This is a positive thread about gay wedding stories of love between men.

To start, here is a wedding of two black gay men on March 14, 2015, at the Riverside Church, Manhattan:

    20150405VOWS-slide-VY5C-jumbo.jpg

NYT: When he was younger, the Rev. Melvin Poindexter Miller had been torn between pursuing a career in dance or the ministry. After he was accepted into a seminary, though, the decision seemed behind him.

But at the height of his success, he left to take a less prominent job with another church, fearing that with all the attention, he would be exposed as a gay man and that his career would be ruined.

“I was in the closet,” he said. “I thought it would be bad for my career.”

His decision was part of a pattern of running away from situations that might reveal his sexuality, but that had finally ended by the time he returned to Riverside Church on March 14 to marry Leigh Jeremy Britton.

NYT: Brandon Cardet-Hernandez, a Cuban-American who grew up in Orlando, Fla., didn’t know the Yiddish term for soul mate (bashert) when he bumped into Ariel Foxman on the uptown A train in March 2012. But it’s clear now that that one subway trip was an express to destiny.

Married December 13, 2014, at Brooklyn Museum.

We are couple of old flyboy types, one Navy, one AF. Old enough to remember the Stonewall riots when that was a current event; never even dreamed we'd live to see 'gay marriage.'

So this summer we went to visit his brother and their grandkids in Buffalo , actually just north of there near Niagara Falls, for his 50th high school reunion. And we decided that while we were there we should go ahead and "make it legal" even though Arizona wouldn't recognize it.

So where did we get married? Not *at* Niagara Falls, but *over* them - in the air of course, in a chopper. Wedding attire? Our flight suits.

You can see the photo of us landing after, with sis-is-law & grandnephew & nieces, in my profile.

PS: Honeymoon a few weeks later in Key West, and about a month after we got back, AZ gave in and accepted marriage equality. Happily every after...

NYT: Married Nov. 8, 2014, at Gerald Peters Gallery, Santa Fe, N.M.

Steven Okuley and Richard Dusseau often say that, if they had looked for love online, where matches are generally made according to similarities and common ground, they would have never met.

NYT: Married Sept. 14, 2014, on the rooftop terrace of the Arris Lofts in Long Island City, Queens.

Andrew William Gerle and Joseph Steven Zellnik are both composers for musical theater. Mr. Gerle, 42, is a writer of the book and the composer for, among other shows, “Meet John Doe,” based on the Frank Capra movie. The show played at Ford’s Theater in Washington in 2007. Mr. Zellnik, 45, is the composer for “Yank!,” a gay love story set among soldiers in World War II, which was a surprise Off Broadway hit in 2010. They met on Facebook.

NYT: Nick Denton, the publisher and founder of Gawker Media, was approaching a group of his wedding guests who were smoking on a terrace of the American Museum of Natural History. Those familiar with the stern side of Mr. Denton, who was married at the museum on May 31 to Derrence Washington, might have thought they would be reprimanded. Instead he grinned and said: “We’re gathering everyone for a group photo. We have a guy up there.”

NYT: Married Feb. 20, 2014, at The Manhattan Marriage Bureau in New York.

When Tony Perkins moved to New York from Leakesville, Miss., in April 1986, he wasn’t looking for love. Like most, he came in pursuit of a dream: a career in fashion and a life that his one-stoplight hometown could not offer.

“I wanted something more,” Mr. Perkins said. “I knew there had to be something else out there.”

Mr. Perkins, then 26, had spent his life as a straight man, but had recently broken up with his fiancée and had come out as gay to his family and friends before moving to New York. He didn’t want a serious relationship, so it wasn’t particularly convenient when in October, just six months later, he met Dr. Patrick Joseph Suraci at a birthday party and soon fell in love with him.`

I am very thrilled to report that you can add me to this list on May 1st.
Very unlikely how we met and it took no time at all for both of us to realize that this was IT. Hoping for a beautiful day in Central Park (NYC) and dinner with family and friends at a restaurant where we had one of our first dates.

"That was more than 10 years ago, and the fact that they are still together remains somewhat of an enigma even to them. “It’s impossible to say how or why you love somebody, especially when it’s the real kind of love,” Mr. Okuley said. “It’s not a calculation. It’s not because of A and B and C. It happens in a black box. You don’t know the formula of how people who are so different grow closer and closer every month and year, to the point where now, we can’t imagine our life without each other.”

This is from one of the articles. Which I think is true. When people ask "what do you live about him/why do you love him?" I can come up with a long list of wonderful things about him. But the truth is that's all post hoc justifications. I love him. It just happened. It was magic.

NYT: Married Jan. 4, 2014, at Frederick P. Rose Hall at Jazz at Lincoln Center, New York City.

They were introduced at a community board meeting in 2006 when Mr. Adam Riff was a legislative aide for State Senator Tom Duane, one of the first openly gay members of the State Senate. Mr. Chris Coffey impressed the more-reserved Mr. Riff with his energy and eloquence. So much so that Mr. Riff, a Northwestern graduate from Palo Alto, Calif., exchanged several emails with friends afterward inquiring about “the cute guy in the mayor’s office."

NYT: Married September 22, 2013, on the roof of Fiola restaurant in Washington, DC.

For David Hagedorn and Michael Widomski, friends for many years, the hardest parts about falling in love were shaking off the fantasies each had harbored about how love would arrive and admitting to themselves and each other that what they had was the real thing after all.

NYT: Married Feb. 14, 2013, Empire State Building, 21st Floor.

Mr. Preston Bailey, 63, and Mr. Theo Bleckmann, 46, met at the Chelsea Piers gym. They remember first noticing each other about 10 years ago, across a room full of StairMasters. “Preston was always at the gym,” Mr. Bleckmann recalled. “He works out like a panther, very slowly and deliberately, almost without effort, while everyone else is huffing and puffing.”

NYT: IT was perhaps fitting that Representative Barney Frank met his future husband, Jim Ready, at a political fund-raiser in 2005. Mr. Frank, 72, and Mr. Ready, 42, were married in Newton, Mass., part of Mr. Frank’s district, on Saturday, July 7, 2012, in a low-key ceremony on the banks of the Charles River.

Mr. Frank, Democrat of Massachusetts, became, in 1987, the first sitting member of Congress to volunteer that he was gay.
