As usual, the headline is somewhat misleading and inflammatory. An "entertainment" development of some sort would be developed on Navajo land near the rim of the canyon, not in it. I wouldn't automatically reject the idea, if it didn't impact the experience of the canyon itself.

Back in the 60's when we did the Great American Car Vacation, my Dad did pretty much exactly like the Chevy Chase movie. Drove all week to get there, spent about one minute at a view point parking lot, turned around and drove away. icon_rolleyes.gif

I have never been satisfied with what the tribes do when they build something like this. It's almost always cheesy, and disrespectful of the local zoning laws since they are not bound to them. They also have a habit of letting someone else build the business, then rip the lease out from under them with little notice.

I also think there should be a wide buffer zone around the Canyon. No development for a mile, or whatever. I would hate to see this natural wonder become Las Vegas or Niagara Falls.

I don't want to sound like some wild eyed lefty, but I'm also opposed to it unless it's considerably further away than this article leads me to believe it is.

    Keep our wilderness areas wilderness!
