Awesome lady. Saw her once in concert. Great as she is on recordings, she was greater live.

I understand she could record a song in one take.

    She was a phenomenal talent.

I once had an email friend, an actor/writer/director, etc out in WEHO who (naturally) supported himself as a cater waiter. Over the years he had met just about every name in the business. I asked him once who his favorite celeb was and he said hands down it was Ella. Met her twice. He said she was completely humble and down to earth, polite, and treated everyone she met the same. This didn't surprise me at all.

Beautiful! I've been loving the album Ella for Lovers lately. Her sultry, romantic essence is mesmerizing icon_smile.gif

My parents saw her on their first date. Here she is with Duke Ellington.

I gave a dinner in her honor when I was in college and she was in town to perform. She graced us with her presence, and was everything your friend said: easily the most charming, down to earth, genuine lady I've ever met in showbiz. Even after the rigors of a concert, she stayed at the party for nearly two hours.

She actually has a kind voice, on top of all that power and soul.
