I recently read an article about steroids and gay men and I came up to a section where they talked about how steroid usage goes up for some men during the Pride Festivals. Is this really accurate? I've only been to one Pride Festival and I can't remember much of what I saw so I thought it'd be better to ask someone older whose been to Pride.

Poppycock! Gay men do not use steroids unless there is a reason, medicinally. And if a Dr. prescribes it, it is only because, well, the patient needs it at least as much as the Dr. needs to make his mortgage payment on that house overlooking the bay.

Yes boo. Steroid use among gay men is most likely higher. Not necessarily during pride week, but def higher.

I've learned many of this huge guys at the gym who you suspect are using steroids probably are.

Not to mention it deflates once it's stopped. It would be very silly to think someone would do all the complicated procedures of a steroid cycle just for a temporary water retention that doesn't even look good (unless you like a bloated look or guys who only look good when they're clothed)

This does not make sense. It is not as if steroids instantly transform a body. It might makes sense that steroid use increase in the weeks leading up to a pride festival, but not during.

Based on what I've read, steroid use tends to drive sex drive down because the body stops producing its own testosterone. If so, that effect would be the antithesis of the desired effect for pride.

    Isn't pride the desired effect?

Actually your sex drive goes up dramatically. Even though your own testosterone is not being made naturally, it is being replaced with a much higher dose, thereby, increasing drive.

Some poorly informed juicers left to their own devices commit the mistake of doing cycles without testosterone and they are very vocal about their undesirable side effects, hence the horror stories.

I should have reiterated... "Steroid use becoming more frequent a few months before Pride."

And yes, I know that steroids aren't magic where they automatically make you grow muscle. Of course you have to continue to workout like crazy to put the steroids in use. From what I understand, steroids just help you recover quicker so you can get back to working out more frequently, hence the quicker muscle growth.

I also know that once you stop your cycle, you will "deflate" sort-a-speak, especially when you stop working out as much. But from the article I read, the consensus was that it was only used for the attention anyway.

You'd be surprised by the amount of guys who like the bloated juicer look. I'm a little guilty of it myself if I have to be honest.

I wouldn't be surprised, particularly in light of the fact that steroid use has become prevalent among gay men. But, as I always say, to each his own--everyone has the right to do what he pleases as long as it doesn't harm others.

I have similar feelings when it comes to steroids. It's up to the individual if he wants to use them. I only asked this to see if it was true or anyone experienced it.

Yes, this is true. I know plenty of guys who will do a cycle leading up to a big gay event (Pride, IML, Folsom Street Fair, White Party, you name it) so that they will look good with their shirt off on the dance floor.

I don't think the vast majority of gay people use steroids, because most of them don't go to a gym.

But, circuit gays are heavy users for sure. That is probably who they are talking about.. and they will be making their rounds at WE party in NYC I am sure.

That is kind of weird. When I have been to gay pride events; it was bongo playing lesbians, slightly chubby balding types in khaki shorts, and others like that. I don't remember seeing tons of muscle bound guys. The Saint-At-Large parties and other circuit parties now that is a different story. Even then I don't think a lot are on steroids. They have nice bodies but most don't go overboard.

I would be willing to bet a lot of them are on gear. An average person like you (no offense) has a distorted view of what an enhanced person looks like (insert picture of huge bodybuilder) when in reality most aas users are just your average gym guys.

This is very true. So many guys do steroids but have a shitty diet and no work ethic in the gym. They don't look any better than guys who aren't using.

This is without mentioning that many juicers are after the fitness model look which many still insist on seeing as naturally achievable.
