NYT: Scott Walker, the son of a Baptist preacher, learned a lot about being a politician by going to church.

He was introduced to glad-handing while greeting worshipers beside his father after Sunday services. His confidence as a public speaker began at 2, when he delivered a Christmas greeting from the pulpit, and it blossomed when he preached occasional sermons as a teenager. And now, Mr. Walker’s lifelong church involvement may be a powerful asset as he positions himself to run for the Republican presidential nomination and focuses on early primary and caucus states dominated by evangelical voters.

I think Scott Walker is one of the few Republicans who has a prayer of besting Hillary Clinton. He has actual red meat accomplishments so doesn't need to tack to far to the right in his rhetoric to impress primary voters. So pivoting to the center in the general election will be easier for him. And he doesn't seem as batshit crazy as other candidates (Ted Cruz.)

If he is going to prattle that fundamentalist psychobabble, than I hope he gets trounced in the primaries. He needs to get away from that stupid, divisive bullshit and focus on the important issues facing we the people. If Scott Walker is serious about running for President, than he needs to stop being a narrow minded bible thumping screwball.

But as he himself admits, that's how he was raised. The son of a preacher man. And that's how he lives today. Someone who legislates & governs from the Bible.

Problem is, it's not MY Bible, nor the same Bible as a lot of other Americans. That's why this country was conceived as a secular nation, not a religious one, accepting of many religions. But that's where most of these leading Republican candidates want to take us.

Here's Hillary being guided by her supporters:

Hillary is supported by the Billionaire Sultan of Brunei who passed a law to execute gays by stoning. Hillary accepts 10's of Millions of dollars from Brunei and other Islamic nations who imprison or stone gays to death. Some of the countries sell young girls into slavery. Here's Hillary with the Sultan who had a dinner in her honor:

Hillary is also support by and accepts money from Goldman Sachs who paid her an estimated $400,000 for 2 speeches.

Hillary's son in law works for Goldman Sachs and his father is a convicted felon.

Here's Hillary with Lloyd Blankfein, left, Chairman and CEO of Goldman Sachs:

Here's Hillary being supported by Charlie Rangel who had to step down from Chairmanship of the House Ways and Means Committee due to multiple ethics violations:

Leave it to the anti-gay conservative trolls to hijack every thread with random nonsense about an unrelated topic.

It's called change the subject to one they think they can win. Another example here of an allegedly gay man, who bites the political hand that feeds him, while licking the ass of the Republicans who shit on him.

The thing is, being the son of a preacher man means he gets automatic 'street cred' with evangelical Christians. He speaks their language. So he can make vague promises and they'll automatically vote for him.
It's actually not that different from African Americans voting for Obama. Very few can articulate why having a black president is good for their community or what his positions are or why they agree with them. He was 'one of us' therefore they voted for him. Politics is essentially an exercise in tribal identity. Walker is automatically a evangelical and and automatically part of the pro-business wing (aka anti union). That's 2 of 3 of the major wings of the Republican party. Candidates can either convince a party wing they are one of them or they can BE one of them. Being is better, fewer crazy sounding quotes to be used by the other side.

Hmm, going against Walker is the fact that he's NOT a college graduate.

Remember when Republicans foamed at the mouth for Obama's GPA in college AND Harvard law. Remember when being the Editor in Chief of the Harvard Law Review wasn't enough academically? It wasn't because he couldn't afford it, it was because he said "fuck it" after losing his class election. That's a huge character flaw.

Now, pray tell, how can a college DROP OUT ever pass muster under their exacting criteria? Me thinks me sees a double standard. icon_rolleyes.gif

When I first saw the thread headline I thought this must be from the Daily Onion.

While Mr. Walker's statements might appeal to the evangelical voter and, when combined with his anti-union track record, might give him a fair chance at the Republican nomination, I don't see his overt "faith" getting much traction with mainstream voters who tend to vote more during a presidential election than they do during a mid-term election.

^That's the grand GOP plan it seems. So now the same GOPers who had their panties in a bundle over Harvard Law graduate and editor Obama for a "lack of transcripts" will have to....err....defend(?) Walker being a college DROPOUT.

And again, he didn't dropout because of money, because his wife got pregnant and he had to support her, or because he wanted to enlist and fight in the war. He DROPPED OUT and QUIT because he lost a student body election. Walker has revealed a huge character flaw in that he has no perseverance or stick-to-it-ness.

Hey this college dropout has been a pretty good and effective governor for Wisconsin. He could be a very good, effective President that is if he keeps his mouth shut about religion.

^^Since when is union busting a "good" thing for anybody except GOP politicians and the top 1%?

You're functionally remedial and illiterate if you think otherwise. Unions aren't perfect, but they're a heck of a lot better than nothing. Any port in a (corporate) storm.

Union busting is a good thing because these public employee unions have been bleeding the taxpayers for more money and perks year after fucking year. If anyone is remedial, it is you bozo boy. Unionized government employees live the life of Riley while all us working folks have to fork out more tax money to these underworked and overpaid government workers so they can go buy a brand new SUV or get a facial.

This is the problem with libertarianism. It sounds so appealing when viewed through those cool tunnel-vision glasses: gut unions, public service employees have less bargaining power, get paid less, your taxes go down. Sounds like easy math, right?

Except when you need a public service employee, and you have long wait lines because they're underfunded and understaffed.

When your kids attending a public school are getting the scrub team teachers, because who wants to put up with your snotty-entitled-libertarian-spooge-donation kids for half the wages?

The police. The fire department. The DMV. The park ranger. The highway crews. Fuck 'em, right? You want low taxes and they can just eat shit for all you care.

    Good luck with that.

^^Exactly. RoadBikeRob has read too much Ayn Rand, this is NOT a new concept. It's the same "unbridled individualism" that leads to the 'free rider problem' and the breakdown of civilization as we know it. It would, literally, lead to a situation of a poor Latina woman bleeding out at the steps of a hospital because....wait for it...there's no federal regulation that says ERs have to accept all persons in danger of risking life, limb or eyesight.

Why he keeps peddling his libertarian BS I shall never understand.

Yeah, let's pass around a collection plate for paying for the bridge and fire brigade.

    Witch please.
