I typed that into google and searched sfbay.craigslist.org for the past few weeks and have found nothing available within my budget ($1200/mo).

Any suggestions? I'm gonna be here till September.

Might also check the Oakland Tribune (paper edition)

    Good Luck

Your best bet is to rent a room Paul. There is really nothing that low here in the East Bay for that price if you are looking for an apartment short rent, maybe a studio but that is really pushing it.

I have a friend that lives in Hayward and he rents a room for $600.00 a month. You will not find an apartment for that low, if that is what you were looking for. He used Craiglist to find his room and it worked out quite well for him.

Oakland might be an option as HK has noted, but be careful some areas of Oakland are really bad. Lake Merritt, Piedmont, Montclair, Temescal, Claremont..close to Berkley are good.

You might also want to check Alameda as well, some nice areas there as well.

Hayward? Dude, why would anyone want to spend a night, or an hour, or a minute in god forsaken Hayward? I spent four years in Berkeley while at CAL, and Hayward was about 1/2 hour away. Nobody went to Hayward. A miserable, dirty, dreary, unenlightened place with way too many born-agains.

Maybe you can find somewhere to housesit for free for a while. Probably have to know someone who knows someone, though.

There's a univeristy in Hayward (also Berkeley) where there are likely some academics leaving for the summer. Might try inquiring at some university office.

Paul as I remember you have a place in FL, so why not check the sites for traded accommodations, I've heard some positive shit on them....
