He's trying to relate this issue to the Dred Scott Decision, which started the Civil War.

If he's right, then we'll just have to fight. It obviously worked for abolishing slavery, and it'll work for abolishing the redneck bible belt right wingers. Again.

    +1

Good point. Oh, and BTW, while he does have the protection of the 1st Amendment, he may nevertheless be speaking treason.

The only problem this time around is that there's no real conservative stronghold worth burning. We already control most of the greater metros. So it's not like the good old days where we could just set Atlanta on fire. What are we going to do this time, take our bic lighters shack to shack in the Carolinas? Caravan to Lubbock TX? Hardly seems worth the effort.

Carol Burnette is a legend! "I just saw it in the window and I HAD to have it."

    This is absolutely horrible.

They should have given us civil unions with enforcement.
We should have established civil unions in all 50 states, demanding enforcement.

Yeah, I remember always watching her show as a kid. Very funny lady. But that curtain scene, which I've never forgotten, was probably one of the funniest moments on TV. She carried it off so well. And I just looked it up, didn't realize this--there's a whole wiki on it...

The curtain dress was conceptualized and designed by Carol Burnett Show costumer Bob Mackie. The script originally called for the dress to be hanging off of Burnett, but Mackie did not find it funny. He asked the art director for a real curtain rod and green fabric and made the dress on a mannequin. Burnett said that she came into costume fittings and when she saw the curtain rod she said it was the most brilliant sight gag ever.

So that dress is a Bob Mackie. They've got it under glass...

    Still funny.

The late Harvey Korman, who played a "Rhett Butler" character in the sketch (I think maybe "Brett"?) could barely keep a straight face. I'm not sure he had seen the thing on Carol before she came down the stairs. Those weekly shows were thrown together very quickly. It has indeed become a comedy legend. I also saw it when it was first broadcast. Carol gives full credit to Bob Mackie, not herself.

This Burnett scene, for me, is up there with Lucille Ball in the chocolate factory or the Vita-Meat-a-Veg-a-Min (drunk) scene.

Only this time, the average waist size for a southerner is 42" and they can't kick their feet up past their ankles.

Beware the pending war of rascal scooters on the horizon!
