Strange few days, I bought some baby carrots in a sealed bag and some home made ranch dip from the new Haggen store on Tuesday evening. After munching, snaking on these Wednesday and Friday, By Friday night out I had a huge case of free flow diarrhea late Friday night into Saturday morning that made me cut my evening out short. I had used a water enema a few times after going number 2 so I was all cleaned out and felt fine going out. Getting diarrhea attack while driving is absolutely the worst feeling and is now the second time in 4 years its happen to me. I will skip the messy details but it wasn't pretty icon_lol.gif

How do I know if I have Crohn’s disease? Why does this happen in my car?
I have to take OTC Zantac for my sliding hiatal hernia

That wiki page is totally wrong.

Traveler's diarrhea is just a latent effect of driving a shitty car.

HaHa, come on I need some serious answers here. Sudden onset diarrhea at the most in opportune times, on a date, in a car, getting pulled over by police, while on a coaster at Disney Land..etc

    A couple of things.

Home made is the key. Which likely lacked the dreaded "preservatives" that many lament however is partially responsible for the increased longevity for people in the last 100 years. Simple preservatives that have no harm and are within the body prevent bacterial growth. Unfortunately the timing of your story prevents me from directly blaming it on 1 bacteria. From the timing of it , it was likely E coli, however there have been outbreaks of Listeria recently. Campylobacter and Salmonella as well.

    Second carrots.

Big farms will sterilize the outside of many vegetables with a bleach solution. A local farm may not.

Third the possibility of a virus that causes gastroenteritis

Fourth, usually people know this but lactose intolerance cannot be ruled out here. Easy to see. Drink some pasteurized milk.

The 2nd time in 4 years.. Crohns is characterized by bloody diarrhea. Doubt it.

How do I know if I have Crohn’s disease?

You really don't without extensive medical testing - a colonoscopy is the only way to know for sure. As symptoms go, you'd probably have a past history of extensive diarrhea, 4+ bowel movements a day, occasional to constant blood in your stool, chronic gut pains, and possibly some extraintestinal manifestations like oral ulcers, aching joints, uveitis, and chronic fatigue.

Diarrhea does not mean you have Crohn's. Crohn's comes on typically very gradually over the course of months or years. It doesn't sneak up on you as a sudden diarrhea attack. Chances are you just made a shitty food choice.

Obviously see a doctor ASAP, or go to an ER. You can be checked for food poisoning, or perhaps something else is going on with you. You won't learn the answer here.

When I have diarrhea I avoid cars. Not only because you have no good way to clean an accident, but I believe the act of driving the car causes your muscles to briefly relax.

Getting in and out of the door is the worst, but just turning the steering wheel makes your anal sphincter and rectal muscles respond unpredictably. Regardless of what the cause of the diarrhea may be, when a severe case hits you don't go near a car, even as a passenger.

I would be suspicious of the home-made ranch dip. My husband makes a lot of specialty foods, including baked goods, that we give to our friends, which is why we have a sanitizing dishwasher. And then boil the stuff he cans (vacuum jar really) in the classic manner.

Plus use Lysol Food Surface Sanitizer spray on the countertops, appliance handles and so forth, and sanitize the wood cutting boards, which naturally resist bacteria. We would be horrified if anyone got sick from eating his food. Killing your friends really screws a relationship. icon_rolleyes.gif
