That's shocking and very disturbing. Of all the places in world, who would have thought such things would happen in NYC.
Hopefully, they catch that bastard and lock him up for a good time.

The right wing has become so full of hate filled rhetoric these days, showing no signs of real Christ like behavior, its much worse than the Anita Bryant days of the 70's. Its obvious their loss of the control of masses has brought out their complete sociopathic nature, I am sure he will be charged with assault, being NY, and with a hate crime. The attacks on our people have been increasing at a alarming rate nation wide, the more equal we become, the more violent they become. icon_eek.gificon_evil.gif

It's baffling this isn't being treated as a hate crime... with the attacker repeatedly yelling "fagg*t"...
BTW, the attacker could have easily killed the gay guy with that chair... he should consider himself lucky that his victim lived or he would be prosecuted for murder. He definitely should not be walking around free to attack other people.

    http://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/jewish-center-shootings/snapshot-hate-crime-america-numbers-n81521

Which states have the most hate groups?

The SPLC lists these states as having the highest number of active hate groups:

    •California (77)
    •Florida (58 )
    •Texas (57)
    •Georgia (50)
    •New Jersey (44)
    •New York (42)
    •Pennsylvania (41)

    http://www.splcenter.org/what-we-do/hate-and-extremism
Since 2000, the number of hate groups has increased by 30 percent. This surge has been fueled by anger and fear over the nation’s ailing economy, an influx of non-white immigrants, and the diminishing white majority, as symbolized by the election of the nation’s first African-American president.

These factors also are feeding a powerful resurgence of the antigovernment “Patriot” movement, which in the 1990s led to a string of domestic terrorist plots, including the Oklahoma City bombing. The number of Patriot groups, including armed militias, skyrocketed following the election of President Obama in 2008 – rising 813 percent, from 149 groups in 2008 to an all-time high of 1,360 in 2012. The number fell to 874 in 2014.

This growth in extremism has been aided by mainstream media figures and politicians who have used their platforms to legitimize false propaganda about immigrants and other minorities and spread the kind of paranoid conspiracy theories on which militia groups thrive.

the Daily News story seems a bit different from Towleroad's account:

"The couple had been in a verbal argument that almost turned physical, Sharef said, when the unidentified man with the chair said something one of the duo didn’t like.

“Everyone was commenting on them fighting,” Sharef told the Daily News. “It was a big scene.”

Snipes went over to the man and took a swing at him, sparking the fight, Sharef said. The big man was able to get Snipes on the ground and stomp him before York-Adams stepped in to separate the two.

That’s when Sharef caught the chair slam on video."

If people would learn to hold their phones horizontal when recording video it would be very helpful.

This vertical shit makes it hard to see who did what and when.

Victim In Horrific NYC Dallas BBQ Restaurant Gay Bashing Hate Crime Speaks

"He was whacked over the head with a chair so hard the wood cracked. Now he's speaking about being the victim of an anti-gay and racist hate crime."

I agree with Pazzy. If you get up out of your seat, go over and verbally confront someone else and then start a physical altercation, you better be able to back it up or accept the consequences. What if the guy had had a gun or knife on him instead of a chair? And what if the gay guy had won the fight he started? Would it still be a hate crime because his victim was black? This isn't a hate crime and the guy isn't a victim. Just a dude who started a fight and got his ass whipped.

Apparently it started as a verbal confrontation that turned physical. I'll still say it was a hate crime because I get the feeling the men who attacked them did have a negative view of gay men. Hard to prove though because in that moment some people will blurt any slur they can think of.

However, this is also proof that people gotta be careful and pick their battles wisely. Sure, violence isn't the answer but it's foolish to assume that a stranger(who you're already in a disagreement with) is gonna follow the "no violence" code.

pazzy saidone reason why i don't fuck with the gay media outlets because more than likely, they're biased as fuck already and they don't even have the story right. i don't feel sorry for those dudes that got beat up if one of them swung on the guy. that sounds like a when keeping it real goes wrong moment to me. why do people who know they can't fight try to fight?

It's best to find these stories on reputable news sources if you can. Gay Star News, Towerlroad, NCRM, etc. all try to act like they're real reporters but they're just bloggers. Towleroad includes the Daily News link...which includes what the witness says...which conflicts with Towleroad's story. Who does that?! It's also really weird that LGBT sources totally omit the witness' account because:

    1. they're not hesitating to use his video footage.
    2. if you look on his Instagram, he seems pretty gay himself (https://instagram.com/isaamsharef/), so you know he was watching and listening to alllllll that drama from the start!

DefensiveEnd saidThis isn't a hate crime and the guy isn't a victim. Just a dude who started a fight and got his ass whipped.

That's how it seems. I feel like you can swing on someone OR you can play victim. This queen is trying to do both. lol

Names will never hurt me. But sticks and chairs may break my bones!

From a hate crime perspective, the perp doesn't help his case by responding to a spilled drink (allegedly) with "White F*gg*ts", nor does he help himself by following up the WWE chairshot with a "Take that, F*gg*t" remark before high-tailing it out of there. The perp ceded his chance at protected minority status when he responded to the spilled drink with "White F*gg*ts"

Rule of Thumb: if a person is willing to respond to an accidentally spilled drink with an F-bomb, he/she is more than willing to assault you with a chair (or worse) the moment you finally turn your back to him/her after telling them off.

If you're F-bombed in someone's establishment, alert the manager immediately, and have every colleague call 911 IF there is any escalation on the part of the epithet-thrower (people grabbing their phones to take pictures of the victims, really?). Don't leave the establishment until the manager has handled the manner appropriately, unless you need to escape the threat of bodily harm.

Also, back to the perp: It doesn't help his case that he fled the scene of the battery and NEVER bothered to swing by a police station or call 911 to allege that he, himself, was assaulted first. The predictable cry of self-defense (once he's found) evaporates in this instance.

The easiest answer is "no one deserved anything."

Nobody deserves going to a restaurant and having drinks accidentally spilled on them, followed by a haranguing and an (alleged) punch thrown at them.

Nobody deserves a sudden moment of grief to be followed shortly by an accident and a chance altercation with strangers, concluding with a chair being smashed over their heads as they were (allegedly) walking away from the fray.

Nobody deserves to be eating/drinking at an establishment, by themselves or with friends or family, and having a real-life pro-wrestling event unfold as a free dinner theater, "a roast rage" complete with F-bombs and violence.

Few people deserve to have their most depraved moments in life videotaped for posterity, eternal critiquing, and global judgment.

Nobody deserves to have such horrible incidents explained away by one side of the story, or explained away through the taints of openly biased observers.

And nobody deserves to have their personal victimization at the hands of a stranger conflated to satisfy certain people's hunger for racial vengeance, a desire borne by the perceived misdeeds of other individuals.

No one should have any of what transpired "coming to them."

Obviously, but a crime has happened here, and it's not sure who is perpetrator and who is the victim. I wasn't talking in some karmic or biblical sense.

Everyone directly involved in that fiasco "deserves" a fair-minded, thorough criminal investigation and a subsequent, appropriate meting of justice (via criminal and/or civil courts). Not much more.

This whole "hate crime" stuff is absolute bullshit. I don't give a flying fuck about the sexual orientation or skin color of those involved. If you're going to go out in public, act like a fucking adult. I don't know what started all this because the video has been taken down, but.....if the gay dude called the black guy a name that was wrong. HOWEVER.....there's a big jump from calling someone a bad name to physical violence! Cracking someone over the head with a chair in a restaurant? Really? Who raised this animal? Words are words people. You can let a word go, but the minute you strike someone YOU'RE the bad guy and you've trumped anything the other person did before that. That man could have been easily killed. And over what? A spilled soda?

'Career Criminal': Cops Release Name Of Suspect In Horrific BBQ Restaurant Violent Gay Bashing

    Bayna El-Amin.

That is the name of the 41-year old man police suspect in a horrific, violent hate crime the night of May 5, Cinco de Mayo, at a New York City barbecue restaurant.

“I have him identified, we are seeking him now. He’s been identified for about a week. We will see if we can get him in,” said NYPD Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce. “He is a career criminal. We believe he has fled the state.”

    ...

"In 2005, he was arrested for violating probation and for failure to appear in court. In 2006, he was locked up for about three months on a forgery charge, according to Mugshots.com, which also lists invasion of privacy, credit card fraud, a violation of Georgia Controlled Substance Act, and a miscellaneous misdemeanor. That site lists his height at 6’6” and his weight at 325 lbs. On Mugshot Record Search, he’s listed as 6’7” and both 340 lbs., and 250 lbs. All say he was born in 1974. Police have identified their suspect’s age as 41.

CBS New York reports their sources "tell CBS2 El-Amin has 15 prior arrests including Georgia, North Carolina, Michigan and New Jersey. Most of the arrests are for assault and drug possession, sources said."

I'm just glad no one around here's called dude a "Terrorist" yet. Or, even worse these days, a "Gentle Giant". icon_cool.gif

As much as I like to side-eye the NYPD, it's wise to let the wheels of investigation and justice run its course. We'll keep an eye out for the big guy down here in his old stomping grounds! Dude sure does get around, eh?

    http://gawker.com/police-name-suspected-attacker-in-dallas-bbq-chair-hitt-1705571690

From the article, rumors based on past social media commentary suggest he was active in the ballroom genre, and not the "Dancing With the Stars" kind. Since ChairSmashGate, Bayna's Facebook page has been smartly and obligatorily deleted.

Bayna-Lehkiem El-Amin says he had to crack a chair over the men's heads so the altercation wouldn't escalate.
