How about a drink AND arm wrestling, where the loser has to grope the winner's arms for a few minutes after each match? icon_wink.gif

We moved here to Pcola in 78 and haven't missed MDay since 79. No arm wrestling for me, thanks, but look for the orange and white parachute made into a tent and come have a drink with us. We'll always take loads of boiled shrimp and munchies. I'm easy to find once you get to our tent. I hope you already have reservations. Word's out the three biggest hotels on the beach were booked solid 2 weeks ago. There are still vacancies in town, closer to the nightlife and safe from the Gulf Breeze police catching people driving back to the beach after bars close.

    woodsmen saidLove Pensacola!

When we moved here in 1978 we were escaping South Florida and looking for a quieter life. My lover had lost his job in TV/radio in the Anita Bryant gay witch hunts in Dade County. We both had seven year old sons. We didn't know there were any gay bars in Pensacola and ended up living two blocks from one, "Quiet Village," and three blocks from "The Yum Yum Tree."

Mday was going STRONG back then.... even in the Gay Dark Ages. By the time the boys were 12 we were pretty involved with MDay through Burke, the owner of Quiet Village (RIP).

Woodsmen, if you come this way any other time but MDay let me know in advance. You and your are welcome to stay over... We'll have plenty to talk about besides RJ and politics. I'll be leaving August 14th and won't be back until September 2nd to get ready for guests for Labor Day which is about 30% the size of the MDay crowd.

On another note... The beach, the weather and the water are always at their best and most beautiful the 3rd weekend in October. It never fails.

Here's a facebook page for some good pics of the "family reunion" on the beach. https://www.facebook.com/PensacolaGayMemorialBeachWeekend?fref=ts&ref=br_tf

If you were here Mday 99 on the beach chances are we either spoke or were within 5 feet of each other at least once. We turn out for it in a big way. LOL. All I do is logistics and the cooking for the beach. Others do the decorating, kegs and other liquids. Over half my chest freezer is full of shrimp I've bought right off the boats. Start thawing them Tuesday and boiling them Thursday night just like I've done for years. There's going to be a butt load of weddings for the boys from Alabama, Tennessee and Mississippi and other states. I've got house guests from Wyoming who are going to get married on Saturday. I've been to about a dozen since it became legal here.

The great thing about MDay is after all these years it's still like a family reunion for 40,000 and it's still not an organized event... and it take a lot of fucking work to keep it from looking organized (other than the huge parties Johnny Chisholm puts on)

The first MDay Steve and I experienced (1979) police arrested over 400 gays just for being gay and walking to cars or down the street...
Now... the police love it because it's the biggest crowd of the whole year with almost zero crime by the people who come for it... It's really nice to have seen the way things have changed over 36 years.
