Fake Profiles

Pretty often I get mail from guys who've obviously posted fake pics. They aren't real hard to spot. But quite often I see that several guys have posted comments on those pics, telling the fake how hot he is. I've even seen obvious fakes nominated for MOTD.

I've reported many to the site admin and he says he's interested in deleting these profiles but I get a response to only about 1 in 10 that I report. So, I thought I'd just post a few here, to let you guys know who may be trying to pull the wool over your eyes.

For each one, I'll show the fake's screen name, his fake pic, and a link to where the original can be found.

Anybody wants to join in, feel free.

Here's the Fake of the Day:

The pic is splattered all over the net, on Tumblr, Instagram, facebook, etc. Here's one link:

Yeah, it's a good idea to do a google image search on anyone you're getting interested in based mostly on a photo.

One thing the catfish do now is flip an image horizontally (if there is nothing in the image that would make that move obvious). So, if your initial search doesn't turn up anything much, flip the image and upload it just to be sure.

What are the scammers actually generally trying to accomplish? Mine are usually so obvious I never make it past the first message but I recently had one which seemed quasi-real. What is their end-game if someone falls for whatever the scam is?

I'm not sure whether I'm referring to the 'catfish' per se. I just mean the PM scammers; I'm not exactly hookup material, so they're likely not after social entanglements. icon_biggrin.gif

Hella Jesus! Didn't expect that profile to be fake, I happened to stumble on his profile a few days ago, but I'm unsure if I added him to my hot list.

Makes me wonder how did you know the profile's fake?

I did a Google image search.

You right click on the image, copy the url, then go to Google and click "Images" up at the top right. Click the camera icon in the search line, and paste the url you copied where it says "Paste Image URL". It'll return any webpages that include the image (in this case, hundreds of hits).

But if you're asking why I suspected this guy to begin with - I can flat out guarantee NOBODY who looks like THAT would post only one pic!

It's just safe to assume that everyone is fake until proven otherwise. I think a lot of guys lose their sensibility when they see a pretty face and hot body.

Also a reminder.. the verification system here is flawed. Don't rely on it.

This is just like the time I was out on a "date" with a Guy and I suddenly realized it was just a picture propped up on a chair.

I was SO red in the face.

Oddly, he DID pay the bill...

About 5 years ago there was a movie called "Catfish" - a documentary about a young guy who traveled across the country to meet the girl of his dreams that he'd been chatting with online, only to find out she was a complete fake.

MTV later had a series called "Catfish", produced by the same guys who made the movie, where they set up meetings between people who'd met on the internet and filmed the result. It usually didn't go well.

So, now "Catfish" means an internet fake who lures someone into an emotional relationship.

Today's Fake of the Day is:

    BABEJAKEY
    b2e9ffa8a92170b3edf832fdf9311b96.jpg

This fake is using the pics of at least three different guys (all with their heads cut off). The abs don't match. The skin colors don't even match. Here's a link to a Twitter account that uses the same main profile pic (with head attached):

I gave the fake account the benefit of the doubt UNTIL I saw "his" private pics that looked NOTHING like the one on the profile page. Then it was delete/flame/block time.

Wonder why his is on RJ - that twitter account posted a lot of tweets of twinky-looking "boys" who looked like they were underage. I haven't seen boys like that on here.

Have most people here, more or less, been subjected to this by others? Would that even mean that a person like myself gets 'google searched'?

I plan to do a new one every day, until I run out of fakes (not likely) or get tired of it (a little more likely).

Everyone else is welcome to post the fakes they've discovered.

When I said that more or less verbatim on another recent thread it didn't raise hackles but it DID raise eyebrows.

I wasn't even talking about the obvious, random too-hot guys coming on to me (which happens a lot less than you might think, mostly almost never, which also begs the question of how truthful others are being with this assertion). I'm talking about almost anyone.

A person(a) doesn't always have to prove they're real to me for me to figure out they are by their words, board longevity, and behavior consistency and patterns. I'd like to think most of us are smart enough to figure out who's at least likely real.

Uh, Hiker? The guy with the Twitter account is not the guy here on RJ. It's a stolen pic that appears various places around the net. And I'm guessing the Twitter guy stole it too.

On the other side of it, I believe some guys are aware when a profile is potentially fake. But they overlook it and play along because they want the fantasy of talking to a particular hot/interesting guy.
