    article:
Minutes ago the North Carolina House passed SB2, a law that will allow magistrates, citing their deeply-held religious beliefs, to choose to not marry same-sex couples. In order to appear non-discriminatory, the magistrate must promise to not marry any couples – gay or straight – for at least six months, but even during debate lawmakers were openly explaining that the legislation was to protect them from marrying same-sex couples. That alone will likely allow a court to strike it down as unconstitutional, if challenged.

Six months huh? What a bunch of douchebags. To the charge of animus in the comments section, that plays into the Alabama thread where...

theantijock said http://www.realjock.com/gayforums/4056759 What makes a law valid?

What if they didn't like a certain shade of red, say, pink, could they ban the use of all shades of red to get rid of pink?

These Republican maneuvers make it nearly embarrassing to be a citizen here. I've already stopped traveling to the Great Smoky and Blue Ridge Mountains because of all the homophobic crap in Tenn & NC. I used to love it up there. It's so beautiful.

Not worth spending a dime on them, not with this bullshit. Carolina, I love ya, but you should go fuck yourself.

So Republican legislators didn't know the Republican governor would veto? Veto or no, the whole thing reeks. What a disgusting use of politics.

Not all republicans are right wing extremists. Stop stereotyping all republicans, it is just a faction in the GOP doing all this nonsense.

There must be a really big faction of the GOP actively speaking out against this nonsense. Right?

And when you vote for ANY Republican for a legislative body, State or US Congress, you help to give them a majority that allows them to chair committees. And who's been getting these powerful chairs? Bible-thumping screwballs. Who get to shape and direct legislation. Plus most Republicans in legislatures tend to vote as a block.

It remains a reality of US politics: vote for one Republican, you've voted for them all. Including the most radical homophobes, anti-women, anti-minority, anti-labor, anti-everything fanatics, except when it comes to war and corporate welfare & interests over the interests of the people.

Or that a few pathetically attempt to create the illusion that an influential faction of their own party can be shed away as an Armus to discard, leaving their party not just intact but purified. Right, good luck with that.

Take a look at who voted for the anti-gay bill:
94% of the Republicans in the Legislature voted in favor.

    That's not a "faction."

    North Carolina

I would hope that wouldn't be true these days in a number of other states. It sure wouldn't be here in Ohio.

Oh and like the democrats are any damned better. The donkey dorks only care for the average Joe and Jane during election time. After Election Day, these same donkey dorks are back in bed with Wall Street, the military industrial complex and yes even the Koch Brothers. All those wonderful, feel good campaign promises up in smoke and all the democratic supporting faithful thrown under an approaching bus.

Yet all you ultra leftists refuse to acknowledge the serious damage done to most older northern cities thanks to 50 to 60 democratic monolithic rule with their horrendously failed urban policies of tax and spend, pandering to both crooked organized labor and the unmotivated urban poor, and all those costly silver bullet development projects and urban renewal programs. All you extremist liberal hens conveniently ignore this harsh reality because it puts a spotlight on your beloved Democratic Party in a negative way. Well I guess the truth always hurts.
