Americans Keep Getting Fatter, New Report Shows

    http://www.msn.com/en-us/health/medical/americans-keep-getting-fatter-new-report-shows/ar-BBkm2o3

The report questions whether diet and exercise are actually enough to help keep Americans healthy. Programs such as First Lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move!” initiative, former Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s calorie count mandate and the Campaign to End Obesity have all been met with widespread criticism. Because there is such a strong causal relationship between obesity and low quality of life, some experts say public health must address other underlying causes of obesity such as poverty, unemployment and lack of social support.

pazmurder saidwould like to know what a "fat" person looks like to you. please provide examples.

i'm real curious because from what i'm seeing, plenty of people think that someone that doesn't have a six pack and low body fat with the muscle definition, isn't skin and bones and etc is automatically fat. that's why you have folks with eating disorders and shit.

It was right in the URL above Sir. Pazz if you would have opened it up! I wanted to spare you the view LOL

Oh and BTW, why does anyone care if some people get fat? It's not like you're gonna have sex with them even if they weren't fat.

Cigs are already taxed out the ass like you wouldn't believe...moreso than alcohol (which most of us enjoy sometimes).

And who cares if fat people are unsightly to look at? I admit I don't like seeing fat people, but that's only the sexual side of me speaking because I don't wanna fuck'em.

And they're not really much of a burden on healthcare compared to the 10's of 1000's of military people who are injured every year and get treated for free. icon_wink.gif

Also it's because we're so addicted to SUGAR and artificial sweeteners.
Strip those 2 items from our daily diet and watch 20 lbs drop off in a month.
Quality food costs more than fast or frozen foods.
Plus, most folks are just plain lazy and don't want to learn how to eat clean.

Beacause USA produces way too many tasty processed food at a very cheap price - US Americans don't care about their health so they buy it and eat it.

That situation made part of the population go get the healthy options at "organic stores" which are more expensive - in reality in most countries what you get in the supermarket is organic food by default, you dont have to go find fresh and healthy things to a specific store.

My friend went to USA for 2 months he came back with 4 extra kilos. said he didn't change his habits but everything is alrady sweetened or salty, regular food just makes you fatter in USA.

Its not a secret, but it is a secret. The soda "pop", however you want to say it. I know its big business and probably some politics involved here. EVERY fast food place, sit down restaurant or school pushes the soda in one way or another. I would much rather have a small shake than a small soda. Due to acne, I was told many years ago as a kid, from my dermatologist, to stay away from soda. To this day, I do not drink it, order it, buy it. I drink water, milk or tea with every meal. If I do eat fast food, I always order a la carte, I NEVER get a "meal deal" that includes a soda in the price. When I dine out, I drink water with ice with my meal, I never order a soda. When I cook at home, I drink water or 2% milk with my meal. After a workout, I have a chocolate shake or chocolate milk.

Stop drinking soda with every meal, or just stop it period. You cant police people about it, especially when its producers push it heavy (much like tobacco industry did?). Soda appears to be just as addictive. (ask any Mountain Dew drinker, I say switch to coffee for the caffeine) icon_confused.gif

I am not totally against natural sugar, which is what I use at home, I don't use that other crap or substitutes. I do get my moderate amount of sugar through foods mostly, not beverage. My only "crutch" is my one cup reg morning coffee, milk and sugar always. Maybe those people who hang at their Starbucks for high calorie Lattes should be watching how many of these they intake in a day. High calorie Latte in the morn and soda for lunch and dinner has got to be a bit over the top. Its a wonder more people don't get sick from their daily intake of sugar. I mean we need sugar for energy, but too much "high", then a "fall" cant be good for the immune system. As a kid growing up in the 60"s, my mom restricted our sugar intake, as I remember complaining the only cereal we would get was Cheerios while our friends down the block would get Apple Jacks. Because of this low sugar intake as a kid, as an adult, I have the arteries of a 18 year old, not once have I ever had a tooth cavity and I never have been obese

I use to drink soda like it was going out of style back when I was a kid. I was definitely addicted to it. Mountain Dew was my favorite. I gave it up cold turkey 4 years ago and dropped 15 pounds. Once I gave that up it became a lot easier to eat healthy.

Good for you! I have a friend who has a slight drinking problem and his beverage of choice is "Jack N Coke", to maximize, he buys 2 liter coke bottles, pores some of it out, then adds his Jack to fill the bottle back up. He could easily lose 20 lbs or more if stopped this or even switched to a low calorie beer. But he is an adult, there is no telling this man what to do, he is a big guy @ 6ft anyway, but you can really tell the toll the coke is having on his overweight body, not to mention the alcohol every day.

In my early 20's, Mountain Dew was the "stoner" beverage icon_lol.gif

I will say that eating healthy, fresh food is super expensive unless you can grow your own garden. Fresh fruit and veggies don't last long, usually 4-5 days at the most before it spoils (except broccoli and spinach). And it tends to not be as filling so you have to eat larger doses thus meaning buying larger volumes.
    ONE avocado is $3.
ONE pint of blueberries is $4/$5.
ONE container of spinach is $6 and when you cook it down it ends up being just 1 cup of spinach.

And salmon/seafood... often 1 serving of the non-farm raised stuff is $13-$20. Chicken is reasonably priced sometimes.

What is cheap? Snacks, sugary, processed food. You can buy a box of 12 debbie snack cakes for $0.99. Crackers, chips, pretzels, cookies, corn chips, popcorn, chex mix... $2-$3. Sweetened breakfast cereal, soda, koolaid, bread, frozen meals... all cheap and often have coupons for multiple purchases.

    Well, here's the thing…

Eating healthy IS expensive. My organic cruciferous vegetables for green smoothies is a fortune.

But my meat, not organic, I can usually find for a bargain, i.e. ground turkey breast or whole chicken breast for $1.99/lb. So I can make a crockpot of chicken breast and yam stew and have a heaping serving over brown rice or quinoa for only $1.25.

My starches, like yams, sweet potatoes, brown rice, quinoa and steel cut oatmeal are dirt cheap.

And when you factor in what foods and beverages I'm NOT spending money on I'm saving a fortune and eating healthy is very affordable. In fact, the only way I could eat cheaper is by eating fast food dollar menu items and/or living off Velveeta and white bread sandwiches.
