When did you move into a place by yourself, and what do you like and dislike about living alone?
I understand that having a roomate is cheaper but what are your experiences?

No. Ive done that for short periods of time and always found a roomate or partner to live with. Living alone is just too boring.

    I love living alone.
    Oh, the peace and quiet.

But, times when I've had a boyfriend living with me, I ate better, and I kept the place neater and cleaner, all the time, so that it would be nice for him.

    Yes.

I have been living in a penthouse apartment since March 2, 2015 and what i am liking so far is the privacy which is what I was not getting when I was staying with one of my homies.

My only dislike so far is a meddlesome stalker down the hall from me....

It's the best of both worlds when you have a roommate that is never home on weekends. Then you have someone to talk to during the week after work, but otherwise you have the place to yourself on weekends which is super relaxing since you can do what you want/invite friends over then.

I currently have a roomate and he works weekends while I'm off so that's pretty nice

But I've also said I'd like to live alone for the past few yrs for personal reasons. Would like to know the pros and cons of a roomate vs living alone

Not living alone yet. But I'd really love to, as I need privacy and wanna be alone without any sorts of disturbance.

Either/or for me. I can enjoy the privacy and freedom of living alone, and I can also enjoy the company and conversations of having a roommate.

Then again, I mostly get outside and do stuff, so I'm hardly ever "alone" even when I do live alone.

I like living alone. I've had roommates before, but a man needs his own space. I'm never lonely for company b/c I have friends, family, work - basically, a life that is fulfilling. One day, when I do find the right guy, it will be nice to bring him home - just us, and cook meals, walk around naked, blah blah.

Got my first apartment at 19 / and lived alone for a few years. Had guests fairly often, but the alone times were brutally boring for me. Man, I even started watching born-again t.v. Jeez, I even got sucked into sending them a few bucks once. I was unhappy at the solitude / even in this very nice apt. surrounded by trees / and with a patio / sunshine, etc. I found myself leaving the place a lot. I am partnered now, but in those single years, I was becoming a couch potato in my off work hours sometimes. Too quiet is a drag for me.

I've been living alone without roommates or lover the last 2 years.

I like my solitude a lot! I haven't even thought about being lonely.

I've Done both, I prefer living alone. I'd rather see my own mess and get mad at myself for it. On the other hand when I lived with roommates, I always had a party to go to or throw. Now its seems like I just pay the rent to sleep on a bed. I love my place though. Its just far from most of my friends but close to work. I've lived alone since I was 19. Now I'm well adjusted.

I'm social. Even when I've been single I always preferred living with at least one other person.

I like being able to relax buck naked in my house, so living alone is awesome.

MuchMoreThanMuscle saidI actually wish I could find a place to live with an acre or more around me. I'm actually sick of hearing my neighbors chat right outside of my windows. The stupid shit they discuss is utterly annoying. And they light up to smoke and their secondhand smoke comes right into my home. I really hate it.

I noticed you lived in Everett. Have you looked around Marysville or the surrounding areas? But I feel your pain. I'm currently in temporary housing in S. Everett and I can hear the neighbors fighting.

You're in south Everett? Me too! Hey, neighbor! icon_smile.gif

    Thanks for the suggestion.

I have never been to Marysville yet. I should look into it. The thing is, I rely on public transit and go to Seattle anywhere from two to three times weekly. If I go further north it really becomes an all day affair just to get into the city. It's already a bit of a strain traveling to and from Seattle during rush hour. Good lord, it's terrible regardless if I'm on the bus or in a car driving.

Well hey back to you neighbor! icon_smile.gif

Yeah, I've only been in the Seattle area for a month and the traffic on I-5 and I-405 going south from Everett is a bitch! I had to take a class in Fife. It started at 9am and I had to leave at 6:30am just to make it on time. icon_eek.gif

I met someone real recently, but I'll still prefer to live alone. She's also here in this senior community, and widowed, and has her own house and I have mine, not more than a couple of blocks away.

I love live music and going out to dinner so I'll likely confine it mostly to that.

Oh and to answer the OP's questions: I liked living alone (past tense). No one judges me on my domestic habits. If I wanted to keep the place messy and be a slob, then more power to me.

Being in a relationship changes all of that.....

    I don't.

But if I did live alone, I would ski a lot more.

I'd always had roommates until this past year. For the past 11 months I've been living alone. It was awesome at first but it makes weekdays so boring. It's more fun with other people, even better with friends.
