The former leader of the UK Liberal Democrat Party has died at the age of 55.

One of his most memorable speeches was that in the run-up to the Iraq War, again a reminder today that many people (even before that mess of a war) thought it was a very bad idea and based on a dubious premise.

"So I have joined you here today and I have been asking these questions for months in Parliament because I am not persuaded by the case for war. The arguments have been contradictory and inconsistent and the information has all too often been misleading as well as inconclusive."

Sad that Blair had such a messianic streak that he wouldn't look at the facts. The French were saying the same thing. Bush just stupidly let Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz et al murder more American men and boys than Osama bin Ladin. Plus how many Brits? And Completely destabilize the Middle East. And they still thump their chests like they have the high moral ground. Disgusting.

    Very sad news today.
Kennedy was that rare bird in politics, intelligent, principled, courageous, and humane. His reasoned opposition to the Iraq war was his best moment.
A loss to the people of the Western Highlands, Scotland, and Britain generally.
